A robot in the form of a tuba with banded arms and legs It's body (i.e. the tuba) is shaded to look like reflective metal, its face on the conical bore (big funnel bit) blowing into its mouthpiece, which is on an extended tube from the opposite side of the instrument (because, interestingly and unintentionally, I used an image of a smaller tuba designed to be held at shoulder height for reference, rather than the more conventional style with the mouthpiece closer to the bell), and it has its eyes closed. The robot's arm is connected to one of the many looping pipes, emerging from within the workings to manipulate the valves mounted in the middle. Wide waves emerging from the bell indicate the bassy sound produced by the robot.

This is why I've always disagreed with the idea that "art" is purely subjectively defined. Art is a communication. The listener/viewer completes that communication in recieving it, but it is the intentionality of the creator that makes it art. "AI music" is no more music than traffic noise is.

Paddling (canoeing) across Windermere today, into the teeth of a pretty stiff Force 3 wind - lumpy, and just this side of whitecaps - I came across a swimming squirrel, looking very stressed. Not a planned swim, I'm guessing. It was 300m to either shore, so I'm not sure s/he was going to be okay.

child was Moominvalley. I am still an unofficial ambassador
for it, telling young writers I mentor that they will struggle
to find a better constructed fictional world. I push those
writers into reading Tove Jansson because she makes
words dance, because she makes locations shimmer with
a sense of nature holding within it the not-quite-real that
may manifest at any moment. I push because she is one
of the finest storytellers, because her imagination still
pushes me. I hope that is all in Hookland, as no book ever
taught me more about the power of dark absence in a text
than Moominvalley In November. While the Moomins may
sometimes overshadow Jansson’s stunning lines as illus
trator, the sheer fairytale menace of her early paintings,
they cannot obscure her power to create spaces where the
mind may walk in hope of wonder
