There is a certain type of cyclist who acts like a fucking asshole whenever sharing a space with pedestrians and whenever you mention it a million of them go "well cars are worse" okay thank you for screaming at my child for daring to walk on a mixed use path I guess.

I’m mostly a pedestrian because I don’t drive and don’t have a bike currently. Did you know some of us are assholes too? Sometimes we cross where we shouldn’t! But there should still be a ton more crosswalks even if some pedestrians will cross wherever anyway.

I've found pedestrians act like dicks a lot of the time as well. Not paying any attention to what's around them, taking up the whole space, randomly walking in front of others on the path. I use a mobility scooter and pedestrians often make my life a lot more difficult than it needs to be.

I don’t care about how “rude” cyclists or pedestrians are. The truth of the matter is, they have the right of way in most circumstances and are the least protected compared to those in motor vehicles. Someone in a car always has the upper hand in terms of safety, “rudeness” is moot.

I’m a huge advocate for sharing the road and drivers looking out for cyclists, and with that said, cyclists are some of the worst dickbags on the road fr fr (I just don’t think they should die because the lifted F150 doesn’t know how to stick to the left side of the shared lane)

If bicyclists legally blast through stop signs and are more likely to hit pedestrians in the crosswalk because of it, that actually does imply the traffic law should not be changed and bicyclists should follow the law.

They are using the same kind of confusion and attack that the Trump administration is using to disappear people who have never harmed anyone. For them the crime that should be pursued is being a cyclist, and loosening the penalty on being a cyclists is dangerous. Same as DJT with out-of-status ppl.

Might be because a higher % of bicyclists than car drivers don't bother stopping at red signs. So even though objectively, increasing the ratio of bicycles to cars makes pedestrians much safer, it feels more dangerous because there are way more people trying to run you over when crossing a street.

I wonder if it's just that you see the cyclist as a person, but the driver as a car. I've been nearly hit by a bunch of cars, but they're not as memorable as the cyclist who shouted "move it, asshole!" as he almost ran me over on the sidewalk. (this is NOT an attack on cyclists, or defense of cars.)

When a cyclist is rude or reckless, at worst a couple people get injured. When a motorist is rude or reckless, the worst outcome is orders of magnitude more awful.

My father is always getting himself in a tizzy about cyclists and absolutely will not believe me that his perspective on cyclists is skewed by the fact that the rude, reckless and ridiculous cyclists are way, way more memorable than the cyclists who are just safely going about their business.

I bike a lot on a paved mixed use trail. I always chirp out a cheery "Hi there! I'm going left of you! Have a great walk!" as I approach pedestrians. Especially if they're blocking the whole trail. People are usually really helpful. But about once a ride an older grouch shrieks at me to slow down.

Yes, obviously traffic moving different speeds should be separated. This is why bike lanes need to exist and have sufficient protection from cars. It's also why you can't just put cyclists on the sidewalk.

I've lived in a medium sized city with good biking infrastructure (for the US) for 20 years and I can't remember ever being yelled at by a cyclist. I have been yelled at by drivers while on my bike, though.

Also like, in my 20 years driving I’ve almost killed two cyclists because they were bad bikers. I remember both times. I can’t even count how many accidents with other drivers I’ve avoided because of their assholishness. Just as a matter of SCALE, bikes are barely a concern or danger to drivers.

Stop signs may not make sense for cyclists (which they make sense to me but to each their own) but roads are mixed use and sometimes you have to obey laws that put the needs of other forms of transportation ahead of your own. Like stopping and waiting for a school bus
