[WWII posting disclaimer] Wild to read how the allies kept out running their supplies and once they captured the port of Antwerp (but not the 100km of Sheldt estuaries that make the port accessible), they decided to try for a triple parlay via Market Gsrden instead of clearing the Schedlt.

I wonder if they can find a racist way to say Indians owning a large plurality of motels in the US is a national policy problem to be rectified. Sounds crazy. Except theyre nuts about South Asian IT workers and they’re already going after Sikh truck drivers! All they know is racism.

It is more humane! And they should bring back the death penalty in NJ. But the only means of execution is by combining it with your last meal, which is at a nice diner, where you sit and face the door, until a guy with a members only jacket shoots you in the back of the head without warning.

Such Bluesky relatable sentiments from these Kamikaze pilots:

IAN W. TOLL
In his writings, Hayashi disavowed the war aims of the imperialist regime; he even held that Japan's defeat was both necessary and desirable. Yet he was determined to die for his country: "The situation is tense indeed. But for me, it is all right for Japan to be destroyed. ... Historical necessity led to the crisis of our people. We rise to defend our people in the land we love."18 Hayashi died at age twenty-four, less than three weeks before the end of the war. Hachiro Sasaki, drafted out of Tokyo Imperial University, believed that Japan had been hopelessly corrupted by capitalism, and that its pending defeat would give way to revolution. This learned young communist died in a suicide mission off Okinawa on April 14, 1945, aged twenty-two. He left behind a personal library that included works of history, science, philoso-phy, economics, and literature in German, English, French, Russian, Italian, and Latin. Ichizo Hayashi, from Fukuoka, Kyushu, was a devout Christian who carried a bible on his final flight, along with a copy of Kierkegaards Sickness Unto Death and a photograph of his mother. "I will put your photo right on my chest," he wrote to her, in a last letter from Kanoya. "I shall be sure to sink an enemy vessel. When you hear over the radio of our success in sinking their vessels, please remember that one of them is the vessel I plunged into. I will have peace of mind, knowing that mother is watching me and praying for me."2 Ensign Hayashi, aged twenty-three, died in the second Kikusui operation on April 12, 1945.
Some did not want to go. Gestures of defiance, overt and covert, became more common as the conflict wore on. Admiral Yokoi recalled attitudes ranging "from the despair of sheep headed for the slaughter to open expres sions of contempt for their superior officers.""! On the night before embarking on a last mission, the kamikaze squadrons held riotous bacchanals, guzzling sake and vandalizing their furnishings. A witness recounted …Highlighted text: Hachiro Sasaki, drafted out of Tokyo Imperial University, believed that Japan had been hopelessly corrupted by capitalism, and that its pending defeat would give way to revolution.

ICE has abducted a college athlete. What are the NCAA and universities going to do about it?
Aminata Seck’s detention shows the bargain facing international college athletes: universities eagerly recruit them, but support can disappear when their immigration status becomes precarious.

So I am at the point in this book where the US invasion force got wrecked at Tarawa and so I wanted to see if I could find online a layout of the Japanese defenses. It took me about 5 mins to realize that I was actually reading a turn-based strategy game scenario: www.fireandfury.com/scenarios/Ta...
"From the beachhead it was a sickening sight," Bob Sherrod recorded. "Even before they climbed out of their Higgins boats, the reserves were under machine-gun fire. Many were cut down as they waded in, others drowned. Men screamed and moaned. Of twenty-four in one boat only three reached shore." 39

I was in Frankfurt when Germany played Brazil in the 2002 WC final. Everyone was so joyous and happy. Even after Germany lost - they were still happy since they were glad just to be there. But NGL - seeing all those German flags with the eagles on them was like a constant jump scare.
"From the perspective of someone in sport, I'd like to reclaim the flag for myself and for us. When we wave it, I don't want that someone thinks: What's going on with you?' I want that they think you're happy and you understand how lucky you are to be born in this wonderful country or to have moved here and live here."

“Transgender ideology” is literally just, you treat people as how they present themselves, which is literally just the status quo. It takes more work to misgender someone than address them as how they appear. It’s why even transphobes end up using the correct pronouns for transpeople a lot.

Couldn’t these guys face civil liability? Breach of contract? Since when does the venue get a consent right over the content of the opener. Thanks Jewish billionaire football owners. You guys think you’re fighting anti-semitism? I can’t even describe what you’re doing without sounding anti-semetic!
By then, the tightknit circle of NFL owners whose hulking mega-venues host everything from sold-out concerts to World Cup games had drawn a line in the sand. David Tepper and Arthur Blank-the
respective owners of the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons-had made up their minds, people familiar with the matter said. Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie would soon reach the same conclusion, as the owners traded phone calls and prepared to address the situation.

Reminds me of when Gary Linnerker (correctly) said the statements about migrants from the Home Secretary were out of 1930s Germany and the BBC suspended him. Then all his co-hosts and staff boycotted the show out of solidarity and then they had to reinstate him. www.nbcwashington.com/news/nationa...
The flagship "Match of the Day" program was reduced from the usual 90 minutes of highlights and analysis to a
20-minute compilation of clips from the day's games, without commentary or punditry. Other TV and radio soccer shows were pulled from the schedule on Saturday and Sunday as the boycott spread.
Davie insisted Monday that the BBC "did the right thing" by suspending Lineker, but there would now be an independent review of its social media rules to address
"gray areas" in the guidelines.
