"We don't want to turn into a banana republic, so we won't try to rein in corporations" is the kind of thing you say if you don't know what makes a banana republic a banana republic, and instead want to be a banana republic where the bananas are data centers.

And Iran esp w/ Trump threats and Saudi advances won’t back & will attack Khurais, E-W pipeline, Yanbu, & esp Abqaiq again and again, aiming for catastrophic damage to the oil markets or as Burnell said above, locking in massive risk premiums so the days of cheap oil never come again bc of DJT

I don’t want to sound glib, but if a woman actually wanted to “make up a crime to ruin a man’s reputation,” they’d pick one that people actually give a shit about, like hurting a dog or something.

The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

There are two things to learn from this: 1) Third Way gets to present what the Democratic Caucus plans will be because they're the ones inside the room making them; 2) Dem staffers often don't realize that they're wholly captured by this centrist consultant-industrial complex. It's fish in water.

Someday people will learn this whole thing is the most obvious scam in history but that day is not today. The only reason Musk got away with any of this is because Americans are largely suckers looking to be scammed and the tech press is the tip of the spear of the whole scam.

Juuust prepping for tomorrow's lecture portion covering the Russo-Japanese War. Found this interesting, no other reason at all. Nope. None.
"I have said often that international wars may benefit only a small number of people, but they disturb the peace, prevent progress, and create a host of miseries for the common people. It has come to pass in this manner because there were ambitions politicians who advocated war, which was pleasing to soldiers anxious for their war decorations. Sly war profiteers praised the war, and many reporters gave their full support by failing to give the truth in their writing. They competed with one another to incite and urge the simple-minded common people to support the war. Behold, generals may proclaim their battle victories, but the people do not receive one extra grain of rice. Our military might may be known throughout the world, but our people do not get one extra suit of clothing. Many of our fellow countrymen are exposed to the dangers of the battlefields, and the familes they left behind cry because of hunger. Our commerce and industry have to retrench, prices go up, laborers lose their jobs, and minor officials have their salaries cut. Yet we are forced to subscribe to the military bonds and to make contributions from our savings. To this end we pay an excessive amount of burdensome taxes, which injures very deeply the livelihood of the poor...when we think of these little things, we question the wisdom of having a state, a government, or taxes."

--Kōtoku Shūsui, Japanese anarchist, in Shūkan Heimin Shinbun no. 20, March 27, 1904.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

I learned about this earlier in the year from @djinnandtonic.bsky.social who had both some amazing posts about Minnesota people using similar tactics against ICE and has shirts via www.etsy.com/shop/WideAwa.... They inspired one of my favorite protest posters.
@djinnandtonic.bsky.social-inspired protest sign of the Boston anti-man hunting league sign with ICE at the center instead of SH (slave hunter). It's a bright green circle with magenta letters: ICE in the center, surrounded by 6 letters representing people who have different roles in stopping a kidnapping, one who tries to talk the kidnapper down, 5 to grab the kidnapper if that doesn't work, and an outer circle of 12 people who create a commotion so that the kidnapper can be removed from the situation).
