I find it funny that in Brazil, politics aligns the way leftists believe it should align, with rich urbanites voting for fascists and rural and working class people voting for leftists, and that in America, it aligns in exactly the opposite way, causing no end of confusion and cognitive dissonance.

Partly it's demoralizing, but partly it's about the incentives it creates. If it is possible for Dems to win statewide races in Texas, and if Dems see Texas trending their way, then they will invest there, because Dems defend their incumbents. If there is a Dem incumbent Senator, Dems will invest.

It's important to not just call out the problem but to understand why it happens: DC messaging consultants do not believe in persuasion. They believe in carefully calibrating their messaging like a safecracker to what their target voter already believes. In this case, "both parties are corrupt."

GOP ads right now are all about attacking trans people. Over, and over, and over. I was a gay teen in 2004 watching the Bush campaign try to win on attacking gay marriage, but the resort to this hate drive in campaign ads feels so dialed up now. I can’t imagine being an lgbt kid watching tv today.

A problem is the investment is so massively out of step with the demand (and AI's ability to deliver) such that has developed to the point it can do truly amazing things in specific circumstances but nowhere nearly enough to make its money back.

I really wish that the conversations around AI had...I don't know...some level of nuance? AI is sometimes very useful in my line of work. Just the other day I had to compile a list of every zip code within 20 miles of a chain with 200 locations. AI did it in minutes. It's fantastic for that. BUT:

One of the other strong possibilities here isn't just Dems adding, it's also MAGA subtracting. It's important to remember that Trump brought out a lot of people who wouldn't vote otherwise. As long as Trump was succeeding, those people often voted in midterms. But now? It's "broken promises."
