Proposition 38 will award $4 billion to one unnamed research center. Under the very specific criteria, only one center seemingly qualifies.

Woodpecker with big, grippy, zygodactyl feet is perched on the edge of a concrete bird bath, leaning forward with its beak in the water. Bird has stripes and spots and a cravat and a moustache and a red neck nape spot. Oh, and bright yellow tail and wing feathers, too.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

A “perfect storm” scenario — as described by the San Francisco Bay Conservation & Development Commission — is generally as follows: 1. El Niño 2. King tides 3. Strong waves & wind 2 of 3 conditions will be met at Thanksgiving & Christmas. A storm at the same time is a “really scary possibility.”

California will see extreme weather events on Thanksgiving and Christmas
King tides in California will be extremely high during the Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks. A simultaneous storm could wreak havoc on transportation and push the tides to record territory.

As I stated months ago, Palantir's software is a piece of junk. If you're modeling data about the real world into an ontology, and your ontology does not feature bitemporal modeling — a very basic technique for "when was the observation recorded and for what dates did it hold", your ontology sucks.
