ProPublica is trying to understand how sports betting apps incentivize users to keep playing and when they warn users to pump the brakes. Mv very first attempt at making 3d nail charms with solid gel and silicone molds! Not bad (I intentionally didn't do the feet). I mixed clear solid gel with black gel polish for the color and it's so hot that it got sticky and hard to work with, but it came out pretty good still

It was so hot and dry today that I did laundry in my little RV washing machine that just has a spin "dryer" (so there's no heat, it just spins as much moisture out as possible) and then hung my clothes on my balcony in the sun and they fully dried in less than an hour.

I grew up only hearing "French Exit" (which I am the king of) & then in 30's heard "Irish Goodbye" & could not understand that it referred to the same thing bc all the Irish people I knew were friendly in ways that just seemed to come so naturally & I struggled with. My grandpa was a bricklayer. Well, he was until he wasn't. He was working as the manager of a Woolworths for at least a few decades by the time he retired. "Bricklayer" is rarely a career you can have for life. Our bodies are not that durable & the younger you start, the earlier the damage starts.

So the plan is to spend millions (billions?) to put satellites into low earth orbit that contain server hardware that can only run for 15 minute bursts and can never be recovered, recycled, or repurposed? Forgiving these dipshits would be a massive moral failing.

Once commissioned, the satellite will fire up its TPU in 15-minute bursts to avoid straining the satellite’s power and thermal management systems. This satellite is based on a standard platform built by Planet Labs, but the two companies are working on a demo expected to take flight next year that will see two satellites more purpose-built for advanced compute. Those future versions will attempt to collaborate via a laser communications link.

The good news, at least, in Google’s updated research, is that it seems likely that its chips will survive the radiation of space. The company had to redo tests blasting the chips in a particle accelerator after they realized the configuration of the chips provided more shielding than they would actually experience. This produced slightly more errors in the chip’s logic circuitry, but the company is still confident its chips can handle large inference workloads in orbit for the five-year lifespan of a satellite.
