Another flight oversold, another plea for people willing to stay behind. They got 2 for $800 each but the third one didn’t step up until an offer of $2000. Sorry about your luck, first two to cave!

Back to mid July when I spent a few early mornings at a marsh with a Sora family. Dad had just caught a dragonfly nymph, sprinted back, and fed the babies. But two babies both grabbed the nymph and ran away with it together! Dad seems just as interested as I as to how this would turn out! #Birds 🪶
A Sora adult with its mottled brown feathers, black mask and candy corn bill, stands in a marsh with brown and green reeds. His back is to us and his head is turned as he watches two of his fluffy black chicks run away together, both holding tightly with their beaks to a big juicy dragonfly nymph that dad had just fed them.

Never before has a turtle turtled this hard. Zoom in and appreciate The Foot
A fantastic painted turtle stands on a snag in a stream. Turtle has a smooth black carapace with bright red edges. Its neck and legs are a glorious riot of yellow racing stripes. It has its neck fully extended staring at the sky and the back right leg and foot are completely extended. This is an epic pose by a creature at the peak of its powers.

Blue Jays are some of the best clients at my little bird spa. The level of contentment on display here is kind of ridiculous #birds
Very floofy Blue Jay (a blue and white and black and grey bird) is soaking in a shallow bird bath with soft focus shrubbery in the background. It's bright blue crest is very pointy and the bird is in quarter profile, looking coyly at the viewer. The comfort and satisfaction is evident.

The #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Elegant - any elegant looking bird. The alt is #Scruffy - any bird looking a bit worse for wear. I'm going with this elegant Western Grebe. #birds #nature #wildlife
A horizontal photo of a Western Grebe on calm water in soft morning light. The grebe is on the left, looking to the right, body slightly angled towards the camera. The bird has a bright white breast, neck, throat, and chin. The top of the head is black. The black extends down the back of the neck. The head feathers stand up, giving the bird a square buzz cut look. The back feathers are gray and wet from a recent dive.

The grebe has piercing red eyes. Only the right eye is visible. It has a long, pointed beak. The beak is pale orange. The top of the beak is dark, nearly black.

The scene is filled with soft morning light. Shades of pale pink and gold fill the scene. The water is still other than small ripples from the bird. The water appears pale blue.
