A 10-day stretch of 70-degree weather hasn’t happened in the city since 2015 in the beginning of summer and not in October since 2013. The upcoming stretch of weather could snap that skid!

Tides in Southern California are running more than a foot higher than the late-20th century baseline. In San Diego, the 1.16-foot tidal anomaly during the past hour rivals Sept. 14 as the anomaly so far this year. #CAwx

For San Franciscans longing for a long stretch of pleasant weather, this is about as good as the forecast gets. Downtown San Francisco may not see a day below 70 degrees for at least the next 10 days. The city could briefly hit 80 some days, but 90s are unlikely.

Above-normal temperatures will kick off Tuesday, with no major sign for when the warm weather will end. It’s possible San Francisco’s official weather station hits 70 degrees every day for at least a week straight. The only other time that happened this year was during a historic March heat wave.

Before this year, the Bay Area weather service office had never issued a coastal flood advisory in September. This week’s advisory marks the second such instance this month, an indication of El Niño’s capacity to raise the seas that will only grow into winter.

#Nolo is now a Category 4 hurricane and is forecast to strengthen to a category 5. It would be the fourth Cat 5 Pacific hurricane northeast of the date line in 2026, the most in one season in history. This is all happening amid record warm oceans, supercharged by El Niño and climate change.

An amplified jet stream pattern is expected across the northern Pacific Ocean in early to mid-October due to recurving typhoons near Japan. Downstream effects can range from storminess to late-season heat in the Western U.S. In this case, extended warmth looks most likely.

Remnants of hurricanes #Odalys and #Polo will send immense amounts of water vapor into the South-Central U.S. this week. Forecasts call for 1-in-10 to 1-in-25 year amounts of rain in a three-day span in parts of Arizona and New Mexico. September may end as Albuquerque's wettest month on record.

Hurricane #Nolo took a sharp turn west and passed about 150 south of Hawaii, sparing the state from a storm that at one point was forecast to cause potentially catastrophic flooding. There were isolated road closures, but the National Weather Service is not reporting any significant flash flooding.
