i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

The BBC news summary this morning went seamlessly from "critics warn PM scrapping triple lock would be electoral suicide" to "critics ask if PM has nerve to make tough decisions" and I don't think it's a particularly pro Burnham stance to suggest he might not be the entire problem here.

Every private conversation in Westminster: "Well the triple lock obviously has to go at some point". Every commentator on Burnham: "completely mad to propose getting rid of triple lock - political suicide".

The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

There’s something to be said for how most of the political spectrum can unite around hounding some lesbians over niche drama in their spaces but huge segments of society are silent about pervasive campus rape impacting a huge population of primarily youngwomen

There were more men in a single documented gang rape at one school than the number of competitive trans athletes nationally. But I’ve heard a lot more politicians being asked about protecting girls from one of these scenarios and not another… I’ll let you guess which is which.

the cornell case has me thinking about how existing as a woman means knowing you could be the victim of sexual violence at any moment, all while knowing there's a high likelihood no one will believe it even happened if you come forward.

the horrific cornell gang rape case has me thinking about emma sulkowicz who alleged she was raped as a student at columbia in 2014 and never got any justice. it has me thinking about the physical and mental weight young women are forced to carry while their safety is subsumed by male potential.

Scene from the TV show MASH showing a conversation between two men wearing surgical masks. One is surgeon Hawkeye Pierce. the other, wearing a silver cross around his neck and a purple stole over his shoulders, is a Chaplain, Father Mulcahy

Hawkeye: War isn't hell. War is war and hell is hell, and of the two, war is a lot worse.

Fr. Mulcahy: How do you figure that, Hawkeye?

Hawkeye: Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?

Fr. Mulcahy: Sinners, I believe.

Hawkeye: Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell, but war is chock full of them: Little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for a few of the top brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander.

The plot synopsis for Michael Moore’s satire Canadian Bacon in 1995 seems a bit far-fetched.
The U.S. President, low in the opinion polls, gets talked into raising his popularity by trying to start a Cold War with Canada.
