This is my old apartment complex. Over the course of 5 years it went from a nice place to live to a hell that gave me literal hallucinations for months after I moved out. One of ACORN's rare weekend events, worth showing up for.
Poster for Nova Scotia ACORN Presents: Rotten Rentals. Award Ceremony for: Bayers Park Apartments

Join us for this very prestigious award ceremony "celebrating" Bayers Park Apartments owned by Universal Properties, for their contributions to water shut-offs, pests, mold, disrepair, and more.

WHEN: Saturday August 15th at 2PM
WHERE: 6967 & 6969 Bayers Rd

Want to nominate YOUR landlord for an award?
ACORN is calling on HRM to take real action against absentee landlords who neglect repairs and pest issues in their buildings. Tenants have a right to safe and healthy homes!

Join us on August 15th to share your landlord horror story and fight for a landlord licensing program with the TEETH to hold landlords accountable!

The woman who intervened in the Costco attack is a true Halifax hero. She put her body between a racist and the family he was threatening— risking herself to protect strangers— and told that Nazi STFU to his face. May we all find the same courage and presence of mind when neighbours need defending!
A woman stoically blocks the path of a bald fascist in a Costco, diverting his attention and allowing the family he had been abusing to get away. He is looming over her gesticulating and spewing racist vitriol, she is calmly telling him to shut his fucking mouth.

screenshot from phone video taken in Halifax, Nova Scotia, 2026A different woman, looking furious, is about to TRULY CLOBBER a different bald fascist in the head as he marches in a Neo-Nazi demonstration.

Image of the Harvard (Donham) diverter in Kjipuktuk/Halifax which is designed as a bicycle only route, except designed badly & the focus of an ongoing battle between drivers looking for a shortcut & people who walk or cycle just wanting a safe route along what should be a quiet residential street. Alongside the bollards/pylons is a model of a raccoon in a high viz jacket holding a sign that says "bikes only".

MNFC update
NOTICE TO OUR COMMUNITY
Update on Provincial Program Funding
Kwe' to our community in Kjipuktuk and across Mi'kma'ki.
Over the past day there have been announcements that the Province of Nova Scotia has restored funding to a number of community programs.
We want to clarify that the Mikmaw Native Friendship Centre programs previously identified as facing reductions remain affected at this time.
The following programs have not had their funding restored:
• Family Resource Program
• Youth Outreach Program
• A Place to Belong Program
• Funding previously received through L'nu Affairs
We are grateful to see support reinstated for organizations and services that are important to many L'nu & Nova Scotians generally. However, our program funding has not been reinstated. Critical preventative supports for Indigenous youth and families - including justice system navigation, family support services, and work that helps address and prevent domestic violence - still remain in question and at risk.
As previously shared, the loss of this funding means we continue to face staff layoffs and reduced service capacity, which places additional strain on the remaining programs and services delivered by the Centre.
We remain committed to advocating for the restoration of these critical supports and will continue to keep our community informed.
Wela'lioq for your continued trust.
In Peace and Friendship
Mikmaw Native Friendship Centre

Tiny sample of signs from the protest in Halifax today #NSPoli
Protest signs wedged in the fence outside the NS Legislature read 'Farewell to Nova Scotia, the arts are toast' 'Put the tolls back MORON' 'Tiny Tim is in his scrooge era' 'save our stories' 'Houston Pennywise, pound foolish' (with drawing of Pennywise the clown), 'Dave Ritcey, why do you betray your home?' 'If the dancers aren't funded the dancers will leave', 'I've heard of "cancel culture" but this is ridiculous' and an empty frame reading 'poster no longer available due to cuts'

Gouache painting of the Nova Scotia coat of arms: a blue X on a white field under a gold shield with a red rampant lion in a double border decorated with fleurs de lis.
