Just watched someone turn right onto Windsor from Cunard when they had a red light and panic, because they actually wanted to get onto Chebucto. You can’t do that! Hope that helps! The sign is very clear!

I broke this story in 2011, about the first major publisher-imposed loan restrictions on ebooks (the only truly big story of my trade journalism career). It’s been 15 years, and the only major difference is that public library budgets are lower and what publishers charge libraries has gone up.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Subsequent breaches of the treaty by the British, and renewed hostilities between the British and French prevented the other districts from ratifying this treaty until 1760-61, when representatives of all 7 districts gathered in Halifax to renew the treaty relationship.

The 1752-53 treaty renewed the treaty ratified by the Mi’kmaw at Annapolis Royal in June 1726, and recognized that the Mi’kmaq would continue to have free liberty of hunting and fishing, and free liberty to trade any items with the settlers, something the British felt would contribute to peace.

The principal signatories of the 1752-53 treaty were Peregrine Thompson, governor of Nova Scotia, and Major Jean Baptiste Cope, the district Chief for Sipkene’katik, and other local leaders. The treaty was ratified in 1753 by leaders from the Kespuwitk district.

There are NOT machine-made clothes. If there were, your clothes would be made in the country you live in (where the customers are), or in China (where machines are cheap). They’re made in Bangladesh or India or Indonesia because that’s where the LABOUR is cheap. Your clothes are made by people.
Joyce Carol Oates says: “This is why Al-generated romance novels make perfect sense. Formulaic fiction doesn't need to be written by hand, so to speak; what difference does it make if a machine "writes" it? There are machine-made clothes & there are custom-made clothes. They appeal to
different consumers.“

Laura’s post is such a good reminder that while reforming the property tax CAP system to make it fairer requires a provincial government that will play ball, there are still things City Council can do as well to (likely slowly) work towards a fairer and more sustainable model of taxation in HRM.
“This motion passed 12 - 5 after a lengthy discussion and debate. I voted Yes, because I would like to see tax fairness based on the ability one has to pay (whether you rent or own), rather than the tenure in one's property.

(Tax fairness based on the costs of municipal services received is a related yet separate topic.
HRM is working towards fairness and financial sustainability in this regard by our settlement patterns and development decisions and area rates applied. This is an area that council has more control over, yet the issue is also emotionally and politically charged.)”

A lot of universities will be facing big deficits and looking to cure what ails them. I just want them to be thoughtful about it.
Screenshot of article which reads: At the same time, new job-focused majors may not be sustainable — and can even backfire. Dominique Baker, an associate professor of education and public policy at the University of Delaware, pointed to the rise in computer-science degrees in the 2010s. At the time, they seemed like the best way to secure a high-paying salary after graduation, she said. But with the rise of generative artificial intelligence, computer-science jobs are increasingly hard to find, and enrollment in such programs is falling significantly.
“When you tie the viability, the financial viability in particular, of an institution really tightly to jobs creation on that scale,” especially as a four-year institution, she said, “you have to be really careful, because you can find that in 10 years that program that you poured all your money into — worthless.”

Cars are given priority over pedestrians and cyclists because cars are private property, and in this society private property is more important than human beings. One car is more important than 30 people on a public bus, or one person walking or one person cycling, because private property matters.
