Don’t ask me where exactly I was when I took these photos. Somewhere out in the woods outside Bear River.
Trees with golden orange and red leaves stand out among evergreens next to a small pond on the side of a rural road. A small stream flows around and over rocks through the woods of trees in autumn colours of yellow, orange, and red A small stream runs through the woods of tree of autumn colours. I left home at 7:30 this morning and just got home. This is one spot I visited. Any guesses? #NovaScotia
Old wooden buildings built on stilts are reflected on on the calm surface of the river. In the background are trees in vibrant autumn colours. A sky of pale blue with pink shining through the clouds hangs over wooden buildings in a riverside community. The water is so calm the buildings are reflected on its surface.

There are trees in green, gold, and red in the background. A two storey wooden building in worn grey, blue, and yellow shingles is reflected on a river’s calm surface. There’s a bridge over the river and more old wooden buildings at the far right.

I got my fix of #horses at #Halifax Lancers Musical Ride this afternoon.
A woman with long silver hair and wearing orange fleece jacket with a red and grey pattern pats the snout of a chestnut horse with a white blaze down the front of his face. The horse is wearing a bridle and is resting his chin on a fence.A young rider in a red jacket with a blue and yellow sash, beige pants, long black riding boots, a black helmet sits in the saddle of a white horse with grey speckles. People on the other side of the fence at patting the horses.

The horse has white covers over its ears to reduce noise.A young rider on a dark brown horse jumps over a pole in a riding arena of dirt. There are people on the other side of the fence watching the horses and riders. Young riders hold lances with flags at the top while sitting and riding horses in a riding arena.

The riders are wearing red jackets with blue sashes, beige riding pants, black riding boots, and black helmets.

Yes, I’m picking on Trish Purdy, however, a lot of people believe this. Here’s the thing though: it’s so EASY to tell people to just “work harder!” It actually takes work to change systems that work against people. That’s something public servants can and should do…

This is so true: "The biggest issue is the unwillingness of news organizations to truly challenge the powerful, to look under the hood. That sort of reporting should be reflexive. Once reporters adopt that approach, they develop a muscle memory that is flexed for every story, and in every field."

This is so true. Also, we don't WANT AI to do these jobs. AI can't do a lot of jobs. I mean, we absolutely need to treat workers better and pay them more for the work they do, not try to replace them with AI, which can't be done anyway.

It's funny to me that people go to Europe on vacation and navigate those cities on foot, transit, bike, or train. Yet, some of those same people will say those modes of transportation can't be done in Halifax. I mean, the downtown core of Halifax was built by settlers from Europe!

Zohran Mamdani simply a decent human who’s also fearless. While he’s the mayor, I don’t think he considers himself a boss. He’s just a New Yorker who loves where he lives and he’s sticking up for fellow New Yorkers. He’s showing people cities belong to the working class, not the elite.

Today was opening day of The Art of Birding exhibit at the @novascotiamuseum.bsky.social in #Halifax. This was the first time I got to see the photographs, wood carvings, and needle felt artwork of birds. It all looks fantastic! I hope you get a chance to visit. The exhibit is on until Jan. 2027.
A glass case filled with colourful birds made from needle felting. The birds are also posed on a tree stump and branches crafted from various materials.

The needle felted birds including a female northern cardinal, robin, black-capped chickadee, owls, northern flicker, blue jay, red-winged blackbird, ruby-throated hummingbird, American goldfinch, and a cedar waxwing. Two framed portraits on a black wall. The photo on the left is of a cedar waxwing with yellow and beige plumage, a yellow tipped tail, and black mask. The bird is sitting on a branch with red berries.

The photo on the right is of a blue heron that's grooming is fringe of white feathers. The bird has a long neck and legs and is of shades of blue, grey, and white. Two framed bird photos on a wall. The photo on the left is of a sora, a small chicken-like waterbird with a bright yellow beak, swimming in a marsh.

The other photo is of 12 snow buntings in a snowy field. The buntings are white with black and toasty brown markings that make them look like toasted marshmallows. Two framed portraits of ruby-throated hummingbirds. The birds are green and white iridescent plumage.

The photo on the left is a hummingbird hovering, while the photo on the right is two hummingbirds in a battle.

I saw this about birds all the time. There’s so much evidence how climate change is impacting bird populations. Birds are literally the canaries in the coal mines of climate change. But for some sick reason, our leaders don’t see the connections between wild species, their habitats, and humans.
