Random thought I had reading about yet another meeting where our councilmembers ranted about raiding essential services to fund MOAR COPS: If Mayor Wilson has to veto the budget they pass, will @niluj.bsky.social get to vote on the revisions once we elect her to the D5 seat?

Seattle is starting to see results from recently elected Mayor Katie Wilson’s push for a more responsive city government
Working with progressive Council allies, the Emerald City's newest chief executive has begun delivering changes residents can see and feel, but her first budget proposal raises harder questions about sustaining public services and meeting the city’s needs.

We are building a Seattle where stability is not the ceiling of our ambition, but the ground beneath it. I am transmitting a budget to City Council with ambitious funding for shelter and community to create safety, stability, and affordability. Oh, and — no structural deficit through 2030.

Just to pull back the curtain a bit: Sara Nelson, who lost her Council seat by a 2-1 margin last year, is desperate to get back into the game and to stop progressives. But the big money isn't convinced it will work and won't fund her. So she's cobbled together $150K to try and stop Nilu Jenks in D5.

Thanks for asking, KUOW! Yes, we are winning for renters: from banning pet rent and other rental junk fees, to adding density throughout our City, to SEPA reform, to my Executive Order streamlined permitting, our renter majority city is seeing real improvements to affordability…
Screenshot of a KUOW article titled, “Seattle Mayor Wilson still rents. Can she help her fellow renters?” with a photo of Mayor Wilson. Screenshots from the articles that say,
“Zohran Mamdani lives in Gracie Mansion. Karen Bass lives in the Getty House. The mayors of Portland, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Chicago all own their own homes.

But Katie Wilson, mayor of Seattle, still rents in the same century-old brick apartment building as before the election last year.

Property records say it's 700 square feet, but the original listing said 650, according to Wilson.

This year, Wilson has banned "junk fees" like pet rent and required landlords to be upfront about other fees, signed legislation or issued executive orders to cut through red tape or overcome procedural roadblocks to building housing, and moved toward upzoning, parts of the city to allow taller, denser buildings.”

Seattle city council's District 5 has been held by pro-business backed candidates for a long time. Debora Juarez has held this seat on-and-off for nearly a decade. Cathy Moore won the seat in 2024, but resigned 18 months later. There is a special election *right now* to fill the seat until 2028.

I genuinely dunno why journalists are painting ppl pointing out that it’s bad for 6 random ppl on the stranger election board to control city politics as mentally unwell and conspiracy theorists. Why not just be like “yes, that’s bad. Let’s fix it”? Even if the stranger just swayed like 3% of votes
Post by journalist saying “Sure, people may be unhappy with particular endorsements and fail to see sufficient justification for them, but how they happen doesn’t require some vast conspiracy. Sometime people on endorsement teams just aren’t that great and wonky, which says more about them personally than anything else”

INBOX: The Seattle Office of Labor Standards has announced a settlement recovering $4.4 million in back pay and damage from Uber Eats to more than 14,000 gig workers. The department says the company repeatedly failed to follow the city’s minimum payment laws for app-based workers.
Nearly $4.4 Million Returned to Over 14,000 Workers for Uber Eats Violations of the Minimum Payment Ordinance
The Office’s Second Largest Settlement
Seattle, WA – (August 18, 2026) Mayor Katie B. Wilson announced The Office of Labor Standards (OLS) second largest settlement with Portier, LLC dba Uber Eats (Uber Eats) for alleged violations of the App-Based Worker Minimum Payment Ordinance. Uber Eats agreed to settle the claims for a total of $4,386,682.28 in back pay, interest, liquidated damages, and civil penalties to 14,421 affected workers and $5,982.90 in fines to the City of Seattle.

Under the Ordinance, OLS alleged Uber Eats failed to consistently provide minimum payments for cancelled orders when required, including when workers went to a pick-up location and reported to Uber Eats that an order needed to be cancelled for cause.

OLS also claimed that in some instances Uber Eats did not provide workers with the required minimum payments for the time they worked.
