His leaving on his own terms at the end of the year really only confirms that the only reason he wasn’t fired midseason was to preserve his reputation, which is not great for those of us who prefer a winning team

Debora Juarez, 2020: "When I hear people say there's just a few bad apples on the police force I adamantly disagree with that. It's just not a healthy tree. We need to plant a new tree, we have to completely re-imagine, re-vision what community policing is." www.kuow.org/podcast/news...

Bad apples? Seattle Police 'not a healthy tree' says city council member
Chants of "defund S-P-D" have become a common message at protests in Seattle, and for the first time the idea is getting serious attention from the city council.

To put a finer point on this, my simple math shows the city saved around $15M next year on pension payments, possibly more

A sneaky gift for Wilson: The city's required contribution to its pension was revised downward for 2027, from 15.06% to 13.48%. That is saving the city millions across her whole budget.

I haven’t seen much on how companies like OpenAI are planning for the liability shitstorm of their rogue AI agents committing felonies. If the agents do actually start causing genuine problems — taking a bank offline or something — wouldn’t Sam Altman or whoever be liable for prosecution?

Today Seattle's hearing examiner dismissed an appeal that had been filed by the MLB Stadium Authority over the pending Greater Duwamish Manufacturing and Industrial Center Subarea Plan. Why is this important? The reason for dismissal was the recent SEPA reform bill that took effect last week.
BEFORE THE HEARING EXAMINER
CITY OF SEATTLE
In the Matter of the Appeal of: Hearing Examiner File:
W-26-001
WASHINGTON STATE MAJOR LEAGUE
BASEBALL STADIUM PUBLIC
FACILITIES BASEBALL DISTRICT; and,
SEATTLE BUILDING & CONSTRUCTION
TRADES COUNCIL,
from a decision by the Director, Seattle ORDER OF
Department of Construction and Inspections. DISMISSAL
The parties stipulated to dismissal based on lack of jurisdiction and presented an order on
same (Stipulation and Proposed Order on Motions to Dismiss), which the Hearing
Examiner signed. That Order specified that once Ordinance 127477 went into effect, the
Office of Hearing Examiner would lack jurisdiction. The parties have since stipulated that
this condition has occurred and requested dismissal. Per this request, the appeal is
DISMISSED.
