I thought we all agreed that this guy was full of shit after the Epstein stuff. The only reason he got such favorable press for all those years was he basically paid off every media organization with foundation grants.

Watching Orlando, I kind of love how Billy Zane sort of had this role in the 1990's as a supplemental "break glass when in need of boyfriend" quality. Like, he's a nice a nice option to have around, but don't feel super obligated or anything.

SPD stopped naming cops who shoot people when the consent decree ended, so we do that now. The cop who shot the woman in Beacon Hill is Jose Jimenez, and we did a deep dive on him. Read all about him:

Officer Jose Jimenez, 34, had only been assigned to the SWAT team for less than a year. He was previously a member of the Community Response Group, SPD’s “problem-oriented policing” unit.

A screenshot of a twitter post from Kat Abu: “Fox News tried to do a bunch of scary man-on-the-street interviews about crime. It didn’t go well.“ It includes a picture of a white woman in a green jacket with a microphone in front of her. She is outside in Seattle, getting increasingly annoyed with the reporter trying to paint Seattle as a hellhole. She will soon turn to straight up mocking him.

Trump is an awful president, but occasionally he gives us these insightful glimpses into parts of our present condition that were awful before him, and likely will be awful once he's gone. The man is a symptom (an avatar, really) of a dying god whose dream we live inside.

There are so many worthwhile projects we need in this country right now - things that would create good jobs, and meaningful lives, and a future for our children. None of them involve AI, or sports betting, or huge detention centers, or large paramilitary forces sucking up overtime budgets.

Probably yes, so far as media has disciplined the average person with the values of the business class. Here in Seattle the papers are celebrating our new city budget for 'not raising taxes' at a point where city revenues can't keep up with our population growth.

I think a huge amount of the liberal disgust with Trump comes from the fact that he forces this realization. America has always had racism, cruelty, violence . . . it's just finding out that many of the 'rules' were actually perfunctory, or illusions cast to grant legitimacy.
