So I guess we are going to get a post every day about this tree
Facebook post by Alison Braun in Columbia City Seattle.

This willow tree is slated to be removed. It is a bed heritage tree that is worth saving. Comments needed by October 8. https://services.seattle.gov/Portal/Customization/comments/comment.aspx?proj=3044460-LU

Idk who else might be interested in this, but if you are a pro density and pro tree person I think it could be "fun" to hold a community meeting. Happy to be the main background organizer on this but would need speakers/presenters.

The part of this meeting where I felt like TreePac was most out of touch with the Southend was when they started discussing fundraising. 30k is the number you throw out at Lakewood Seward Park community club not in Columbia City

I for one am looking forward to this because one of the talking points during the Columbia City Paid Parking fiasco was that it's unfair that South Seattle has paid parking when West Seattle does not.

I really think that TreePac leadership thinks of themselves as not NIMBYs, the problem is that all of the people that support TreePac are clearly NIMBYs.

I am convinced that the primary difference between NIMBY advocacy and normal advocacy is the adoption of conspiracy as a primary means to explain actions the city takes

Even hotter take: the fact that ebikes let teens in the suburbs suddenly have freedom to move around the public realm unsupervised is precisely why many older people are trying to ban them (using safety as a pretext)

Honestly congrats to all of the urbanists and safe streets advocates that have complained to the city about drivers parking on sidewalks. This change in policy doesn't happen without that advocacy.

FIFI for parking enforcement was incredibly dumb because it was used it as a way to dispatch parking enforcement 24 hours after the report instead of as a mechanism to collect data to identify enforcement and infrastructure failure hotspots.

I think if you are criticizing the station planning around the soon to open Pinehurst station you probably should also have criticized the Everett Link Extension at some point.

Jason @jrock08.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
One of the talking points from housing opponents that is hard to respond to is that we need to build service capacity before we build housing. This station is an opportunity, and advocates for housing need to defend building transit capacity while working to put in place formula upzones.

I dunno. The article felt more like an op-ed. Sure, Pinehurst is opening without much density around it. But should we build density first and then rail? Ballard did that and got completely screwed by Sound Transit. I think you build what you can when you can. And let's get those upzones moving!

Wilson's budget has me thinking about how Mayor Harrell wasted ~500k that CM Morales earmarked to do safety projects on LWB doing outreach, and then got a million+ $ grant from the state for the LWB safety project that had to be returned when he only let SDOT do a quarter of the project.

A group of folks have turned up at tonight's Bainbridge Island council meeting to once again try and kill a 90 unit affordable housing project at 625 Winslow Way. Tonight's goal is to get the council to vote against applying for a grant that would help defray the project's infrastructure costs.

With hindsight I stand by my statement in May that SDOT is giving up on doing anything in Pioneer Square. The business owners used their veto to kill daylighting at intersections because despite our lofty goals, safety isn't being put first.
Email from @seattle.gov account (anonymized)

Hi Jason

I came across your Bluesky post and wanted to clarify my original message. SDOT is moving forward with a modified proposal, as listed here on the May 6 Preservation Board agenda. This proposal includes 10 new corrals (3 of which are on-street corrals), and 4 existing corrals that serve the International District-Chinatown Link station. SDOT is still committed to installing improvements and amenities that align with our Vision Zero safety and accessibility goals, which includes this project in Pioneer Square. SDOT will also move forward with daylighting treatment as required by state law.

Following the installation of this set of corrals, we will enter the FIFA construction moratorium, which gives us a natural opportunity to pause and consider how we can best move forward with bike and scooter amenities in the neighborhood. We have heard from a broad range of community members who have expressed both excitement and concern about the project. Given the unique complexities of working in Pioneer Square, we owe it to the community to carefully consider the comments we've received and develop new community engagement strategies and project proposals that align with neighborhood needs.

In short, this isn't a project that we intend to abandon. Rather, our project team has been focused on refining our initial proposal so that we can bring this first set corrals to the neighborhood, and we look forward to revisiting the topic post-FIFA when we have the ability to conduct a more robust engagement effort responsive to the comments we've heard to date.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,

The simple reality is that if we want to actually address climate change a lot of people are going to have to move to cities and people that live in cities today that care about climate change need to come to terms with that.
