I was recently reading a biography of former WA Gov. Rossellini, and I was surprised by how many picnics and spaghetti dinners and carnivals and shit that political parties used to put on to promote candidates. At that time it was a bread & butter part of campaigning.

One consistent thing to look for is that Strauss seems personally insulted by Wilson's budget and any implication that the council has not been a fiscally responsible steward of city funds. They have, in fact, added spending while using budget tricks to forestall the reckoning with the deficit.

I’ve mostly given up on going to big name concerts because the costs have become exorbitant for what you get. I still catch small venue shows for $10-20, but part of the reason those costs stay low is that the musicians aren’t full-time professionals.
