Not that this ever really affects me (would love it if this is a recurring problem, of course) but it cracks me up that my credit union only lets me transfer $10,000 every 30 days via ACH to *another credit union*. Yet there's no limit if I write a paper check and deposit it into the ATM.

I think about this calculation every time I encounter a “sidewalk closed” or “sorry*, use other entrance” on a store that’s closed the door nearest the sidewalk or bus stop. * I don’t think they actually are sorry. Just be honest, “if you didn’t drive here, screw off.”

Nothing is wrong with Metro's ridership recovery and I will fight people who insist that something is. Metro was carrying a LOT of (very expensive!) peak commuter rides that are now delivered more efficiently for more people via rail. That's a good thing.

I've been asked a couple of times if my wife and I regret getting rid of our last car in late 2018, right as bus service got amazing...and right before COVID put a yearslong end to that. The answer is: never. I knew transit would be back, and the cost savings is *substantial*.

Portland, Oregon has a rule that says if a business is open to people inside of a car, it is also open to people outside of one. As far as I am aware, two things are true: 1) pedestrians use and survive the experience, even at the 24-hour McDonald's; 2) no other city has implemented this, sadly.
