If anything, it'll likely end up costing the state more. PIP is not an out of work benefit. In many cases, particularly with neurodivergent individuals who already face significant barriers to employment, it helps people to work. Without it they can't work at all. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

"Overdiagnosis" appears in the report 50 times; for the most part, its used to point out how dangerous labelling ND and mental health conditions as overdiagnosed is. It categorically states that there's no data on overdiagnosis.

So many stories were shared on social media about how wholly life-changing – or life-saving – Kieran's work as The Autistic Advocate is for so many people around the world.

Kieran has given vast numbers of people the understanding they need to accept themselves and others; to be better people, parents and professionals; or even to still be alive today.Kieran has been, and remains, instrumental in shifting the narrative around autism and Autistic people from pathologisation, disorder and stigma, to difference, disability and hope.

The Autistic Advocate is not just Kieran. His wife, Michelle, works behind the scenes doing admin and everything that makes their life-changing work possible. Their vital work supports the family, including their three children.

Kieran’s capacity is severely curtailed during treatment and convalescence. Meanwhile, bills still have to be paid.Kieran and Michelle give so much to Autistic people, families, and the professionals who support them. Now they need our support too.

Whatever you can give will help relieve some of the financial pressure and help them focus on getting through this as a family. If you aren't in a position to help financially, please share.

A group of us, diagnosed and undiagnosed who share collective difficulties and experiences; who deserve better than we got, than we are getting. ADHD is not being overdiagnosed, major Government report set to find
Hello and welcome to The Essential, where we dig deeper into today’s big stories.

How much help should someone with ADHD receive – in clinical support, employment and via social security? It’s a live debate in Whitehall, because of rising costs for the NHS and UK benefits. For some, the idea that far too many people are being diagnosed with ADHD or autism has taken root.

But what does the evidence show? A new, landmark Government review – authored by clinicians – has concluded that ADHD and autism are not widely over-diagnosed in the UK. Read our exclusive report here, which explains what the experts say ... and what they think should happen next.

This is horrifying. It classes disabled people as not fully human, because it is saying that they cannot ‘feel’ the same way as an able bodied person would in the same circumstances. www.mind.org.uk/news-campaig...
The new rules
The judgment introduces a regressive legal standard that will fundamentally alter the lives of potentially hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people:
The vast majority of people currently protected by the DoLS safeguards system in the UK will likely see their existing checks and independent inspections cancelled.
The Court implies that individuals with profound cognitive disabilities cannot be "deprived" of liberty because their condition limits their ability to experience it—a view that devalues their fundamental | rights.
The Court has suggested that in borderline cases, for a deprivation of liberty to exist, a care setting must closely mirror the extreme confinement of a prison cell.
If a vulnerable person appears passive or does not actively protest their arrangements, the law may recognise this as "consent" — even if they are subjected to routine physical restraint or chemical sedation or have never known a life without a high level of restriction.
