I've just launched my first on demand webinar: Autistic Resistance & Challenging Neuronormativity in the Therapy Room. There's a gap I kept noticing. Most neuroaffirming training doesn't challenge therapists to go deeper or to understand the ecosystemic and intersectional nature of neurodivergence.

Therapy either upholds neuronormativity and pathologises Autistic people, or challenges normative values and supports Autistic wellbeing through neuroaffirming resistance. Watch Autistic Resistance & Challenging Neuronormativity in the Therapy Room at jadefarrington.substack.com/p/watch-now-...

Alyshelchi: "I signed up for a month just to watch the webinar, which I found to be really helpful. I think I'll stay for a bit to see more content! Very helpful for this counselor in training."
The Autistic Companion: "I appreciate how clearly you lay out the ecosystemic reality Autistic people live in. As someone who spent decades in the military and later in the medical field, I saw firsthand how neuronormativity shapes entire systems long before I had language for it. What you describe about environments, power, and pathologisation matches what many of us have lived without ever being offered accommodations. My own work focuses on the same idea you highlight here — that understanding and autonomy often do more for our wellbeing than any attempt to ‘fix’ us. Your framing gives people a way to see what many of us have had to navigate quietly for most of our lives"

"It is deeply subversive to live proudly despite being living embodiments of our culture’s long standing ethical failings."

"What makes us subversive is that we are human beings with as much right to be here as anyone else and we are asserting that right. We assert it individually by continuing to try to get an education, earn a living, and live our lives in the face of social oppression. And, more and more, we are asserting it collectively. We get louder and louder as we support one another and gain confidence."

Social media would have us believe that Autistic masking is just about acting neurotypical. The reality is far deeper. Kieran Rose and I explore what it's all about; why unmasking can be so risky; and how we might go about it safely. jadefarrington.substack.com/p/delving-in...
There’s a ‘high masking’ narrative with the idea that some Autistics fit in so well that nobody notices them. It’s true that teachers miss people and diagnosticians need years to diagnose. But bullies find Autistics very quickly, without necessarily even seeing them as an ‘Autistic’ person. The stigma already exists whether the label is attached or not. If masking is what we’re usually told it is, i.e. acting neurotypical, then most of us actually aren’t that good at it.
