This is also a conference being organised under the auspices of the Centre for the Reception of Greece and Rome, so for those of us working on #classicalreception in ephemeral kinds of ways (greetings, the entire internet), here is a chance to think about theoretical ways into that challenge.

Was wondering if the UK Amazon does this. It does. It also tells me that I organise home spaces systematically, so not only do I feel slightly surveilled, I also feel as if my housekeeping is being weighed in the balance and found wanting. (You haven't seen the front hall.)

The thing is, we don't know what knowledge and capacity future generations will need No knowledge is absolute - science works by a process of removing falsehoods; humanities work by interpretation and reinterpretation Whilst a discipline may not seem relevant today, who knows what tomorrow needs?

Which means that universities are stewards of knowledge and practice which inform generation after generation after generation So when a university decides to close a department, the impact is felt not just by us today, but by future generations too

Universities are also here for the long run - as my #HigherEducationPostcard blogs on @wonkhe.bsky.social illustrate, the UK's universities have mostly been around - in one form or another - for 100-200 years plus, and some for much longer

This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

Are You Kidding Me?
Can this Great Horned Owl's eyes get any bigger?
I'm excited that my photo "Are You Kidding Me?" was selected as one of just 43 finalists in the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, from more than 10,000 entries representing 112 countries!
The story behind it is just as crazy. I was photographing this seven-week-old owlet when a squirrel suddenly launched from a nearby branch and landed directly on its head, knocking both of them out of the tree.
And believe it or not, a squirrel knocked this same owlet out of the tree THREE TIMES that morning! Fortunately, the owlet was fine and eventually settled down next to its mother.

(photo depicts a squirrel in mid-flight from a tree branch, apparently about to attack an owl who has the most "are you fucking KIDDING me" look in history)second photo showing the squirrel in question making contact with the owl like the lil furry-tailed (if short-sighted) badass he isthird photo showing the squirrel in question making contact with the owl like the lil furry-tailed (if short-sighted) badass he is
