I don't believe that every trans person in America should immediately be made aware of every single evil bill introduced by some podunk state rep in a random red state they don't live in I don't think that's healthy. I have always needed to see a likelihood of advancement before I would write it up

There's all sorts of excuses that are made for this kind of behaviour--I should know, I used to make them. Psychic wages of oppression; small account; pales in comparison to rich evil people; an unserious, unrealistic threat. But as I got older I just started asking, "why act like this at all?"

So I looked at their website, and while it was technically accessible (‘round the back, past the bins), the bar area wasn’t. Disabled people could not walk through the front door and could not order a drink themselves, and this was seen as less of a barrier to accessibility than masks.

This list actually IS ableist, since anyone with a screen reader just got told they've been added to the "four b l three one s m moderation list". How can you create a list to decry ableism and then make it so the visually impaired can't even read the name?

"You're making fun of queer people" I think most people are pretty sympathetic to the queer woman living out of her truck, $50k in debt, abandoned by her business partners, who thinks she is obligated to sit through 3.5 hour accountability sessions for the crime of wanting to keep the business open.

It really is a tiny minority of people in community that act like this but they can destroy entire spaces. Multiple queer bars and spaces have imploded like this because of it. It's also hampered and destroyed the ability to organize protests and direct action.

"We shouldn't criticize in public because people will screenshot the criticism and put it on Kiwifarms" does not result in good criticism done in private, it results in *no* criticism because nowhere is private anymore.

As always: the problem with bad behavior is not that people are talking about it, it's because the bad behavior is happening. You have abstracted it too far when you forget that actual people are getting actually hurt in the immediate and direct sense.

Nobody should get special dispensation on crank behavior because they are part of a marginalized community, in no small part because it's also a huge component of affinity fraud.

The problem with saying this unambiguously true thing is that it puts you in a position of contradicting something a more vulnerable person sincerely believes, making you (by the rules of the Social Justice Game) a fair target for dogpiling and/or firebombing

Just realized that horseshoe theory is less about people on the further sides of the political axis thinking more alike than one would assume, and more the fact that a lot of people have similar thought processes and are only distinguished by their biases for or against certain ideas.

Part of the reason why you can’t make a real leftist or non-fascist politics around influencers and influencer media is that at its core, this group’s political culture and political economy is centered on manipulating people for money, which is at best anti-democratic and non-consensually coercive.

I appreciate the honesty here, though. Because this is what virtually all the arguments in this vein boil down to: an unfalsifiable claim about the ineffable uniqueness and magic of the human mind/soul. Instead of “we didn’t come from monkeys” it’s “our special gifts can’t be copied by machines.”

No, they’re spinning them up quickly because they’re doing a bad job of it. Gas turbines that are belching pollution into communities, tremendous externalities that are driving the backlash. If you want to create infrastructure you have to build it to last and this is not a model for that.
