The lesbian bar story does seem to have been pushed into the mainstream by some unsavory characters, but I don't think that changes that the reason this took off as hard as it did was queer, disabled, otherwise marginalized people who've seen this drama with our own eyeballs play out a dozen times

One of the things you notice when you’ve spent a lot of time in queer spaces, lefty spaces and fandom spaces, which are all prone to similar kinds of drama, is the common denominator is less politics and more “small niche communities full of people who were bullied in high school”
