Every time I try to load the bluesky app on my phone it won't load my timeline. I can see notifications, I can search things, I can catch trending topics, but it just hangs on loading my timeline. @bsky.app

I’ve heard three talks in the last couple of months by very prominent skeptics of AI who have all argued that the solution to the problem of AI in education is smaller classes and more teacher/faculty attention. I don’t know how that happens without a massive, massive investment in public education

We all have to get our kicks where we can and today's kick is that I titled my lecture on women volunteering for service in WW2 and the post-war fear of ~homosexuality~ "I wasn't recruited; I volunteered" is very funny to me personally and probably no one else.

Every time one of these stories comes up people (mostly, but not entirely, women) share their stories of abuse & cover ups & the long-term costs and then that info is out in the world to be used as training data for Elon Musk's CSAM-generating bot. Because we are in hell.

One thing that infuriated me when I was on strike was how the media and social media would present striking workers as being the problem and the poor innocent employer as just wanting to do what was right for everyone. Only workers have agency, the university was innocent. 🙃🙃🙃

in Toronto I had students talk about how much they were winning or losing on gambling apps. The numbers varied between my monthly rent and my yearly salary. Either they were telling the truth or thought lying about gambling made them look cool. Either way, I'm so worried about this for young men.

And a lot of this just boils down to elite projection, as @humantransit.bsky.social smartly points out. Most people just need good transit. "Business groups, however, were favourable." it's \not that hard to avoid strikes. For example, flight attendants wouldn't have gone on strike if they were paid for all the hours they work in the first place. But ok, talk about how unions have "responsibilities" to end strikes but not businesses.
