illustrate the gulf between what has casually (never medically) been called 'high functioning' autism and 'low functioning' autism, a controversial description that uses academic ability and achievement to measure a person's 'functioning' and their worth or value. In reality, even these geniuses found it incredibly difficult to function in society and were considered societally utterly bizzare, but when people say 'high functioning' what they mean is 'We are happy to accept your difference ~on the basis that you are an era-defining genius~.' It's almost like you're saying, OK, I will tolerate you, treat you nicely, treat you like a human being and take your needs seriously, but either I or society had better be getting something in return, something ~big~, like ~gravity~. The neurotypicals do not stop to ask themselves what amazing level of achievement ~they~ have reached to deserve to be treated with empathy.

My GP recommends swimming for my back. I want to go. There are 2 communal changing rooms. Labour say I should use the mens. I am a visibly female woman with a GRC. If I use the mens there's a serious risk of me being confronted and worse. So where do I go? I don't. I'm segregated from society.
