Oh yeah Tinashe kinda rules
An old Twitter interaction from 2022. JK Rowling (saying her author name so people who muted mentions of her can have peace) tweeting some nonsense about how Labour will be Big Evil by referencing something in her kids’ books, and Tinashe just replies, “Oh my god, SHUT UP”

was discussing this at dinner last night: one of the many problems with trying to make policy 'that the American public wants' is that the American public change their minds all the time and are frequently very very stupid.

Technologically very impressive but this stuff scares the crap out of me from a societal perspective. Just the sheer amount of fraud alone that these models will enable is chilling, let alone all the other harms.

i’ve been hesitant to say it, but when i see exchanges like this that are so out of touch with objective reality (AND overtly bad faith from otherwise smart people), it makes me think anti-AI psychosis IS real
Marisa Kabas:
what is it and what does it do? that's the question i've been trying to get a clear answer to and it has eluded me or there is no consensus

Will Oremus
i guess part of what i'm suggesting is it's a question best answered by regularly using it. i understand some people don't want to do that for ethical reasons, which i support. but i think they should recognize that also likely limits their ability to comment usefully on Al's capabilities and limits

feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does

Another way of making this point: The wheels may be coming off the Trump administration and the authoritarian movement energizing it. But a large tractor-trailer barreling down a highway at full speed whose wheels come loose is very dangerous to innocent people in the vicinity.

This is one of the most maddening thigns about this court: Not just the substantive rulings, but how they think about “irreperable harm.” If the Most Special Boy has to wait a month to do a thing he REALLY wants to, that’s irreperable harm. Actual large-scale human suffering? Meh.

In response to people going after him for this, Friedersdorf claimed that he genuinely had no idea Rufo had anything to do with the Haitians in Springfield slurs and then got mad at people for acting like he was being a complete rube.

“just incredible how people paid to write about politics for major publications can be more ignorant than random twitter users who didn't have to search hard to find this”

Conor Friedersdorf, 9/21/26 “Maybe I saw it and forgot. Or maybe I wasn't on X that week. You people are unbelievable--as if anyone has perfect recollection of every post relevant to something they do a quick x post about. Of course the hive mind of X collectively recalls more things than I do individually.”
