this is a well-reported piece with an awful lot written between the lines, and one of the things that jumps out at me is just how ill-informed these people are. the trucker, his partner, his mother — they can’t even agree *amongst themselves* on a shared understanding of events

The big lesson from Brazil's election results is that we operate under the illusion that once people experience actual authoritarianism, they'll be repulsed by it. In reality, Brazilian democracy is just 38 years old and many of the people who lived through dictatorship remember the era fondly.

“In the NBC/Telemundo poll, just 27% of Latino voters approve of Trump’s job performance overall, with an even smaller 20% approving of his handling of the cost of living... Latino voters give Trump a marginally higher 30% approval rating on immigration“ You’d think it’d be 0% on immigration!
In the NBC/Telemundo poll, just 27% of Latino voters approve of Trump’s job performance overall, with an even smaller 20% approving of his handling of the cost of living.

Although Latino voters give Trump a marginally higher 30% approval rating on immigration, two-thirds say that his administration has gone too far in its approach to immigration enforcement. Roughly one-quarter say they know someone who has been deported or detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the past two years.

New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns, who tragically lost his 58-year-old mum and several family members to COVID-19 complications, continues advocating for vaccination. “I have asthma,” Towns said, highlighting his “high-risk status” while raising awareness of the non-mRNA NUVAXOVID vaccine.
A screenshot of a Forbes article titled "Karl-Anthony Towns Who Lost Mom To COVID-19 Talks Of Value Of Vaccine." The article is written by Bruce Y. Lee and shows a publication date from early October 2026. Below the headline, a photograph captures NBA player Karl-Anthony Towns sitting at a press conference microphone wearing a white New York Knicks jersey. He is looking forward with a serious expression against a blue backdrop covered in repeating logos for Chase and the New York Knicks. The real damage that social media did to the dumbs was connect them to other dumbs who validate their beliefs. Dumb ideas used to get bounced against random people in some community who would ridicule that person. Now they get called genius by thousands of other dummies.

W2 earners by far carrying the heaviest tax burden. S-corps get the red carpet rolled: 199A, extra deductions, blatant cheating (e.g. why do so many pickups w/trailers at the boat ramp have a business name), avoiding payroll, etc. The IRS estimated 1/2 of the tax gap is cheating by pass-throughs.

Cars have a geometry problem. The massive infrastructure dedicated to them is an illusion of poorly allocated space. Cities run best on walkability, bikes, and transit. The personal automobile has no rightful future dominating our streets. Autonomous, EV, nor petrol.
