the letter in which she writes this is copyrighted but here's the key quote...
“You are quite right, I changed my mind and do no longer speak of “radical evil.” … It is indeed my opinion now that evil is never “radical,” that it is only extreme, and that it possesses neither depth nor any demonic dimension. It can overgrow and lay waste the whole world precisely because it spreads like a fungus on the surface. It is “thought-defying,” as I said, because thought tries to reach some depth, to go to the roots, and the moment it concerns itself with evil, it is frustrated because there is nothing. That is its “banality.” Only the good has depth that can be radical.

It was this month, October, in 1959 when Robert Zimmerman started using the stage name Bob Dillon at the Ten o’clock Scholar in Minneapolis. He’d just arrived from Hibbing for his first year at the University of Minnesota and was trying to make a (new) name for himself at the folk clubs of Dinkytown
A view out the window of the Scholar cafe in Dinkytown A dark black and white photo in the minneapolis star

John Koerner and Bob Dylan jam at the Scholar, circa 1960 Lee remembers Bob as a "cleancut kid," very intense and deter-mined.
"Do you mind if I play?" Bob asked when he wandered into The Scholar sometime in October. "I want to be a folk singer."
Lee chatted with him briefly, learned that Bob had some experience, and told him it was all right to play. "I'm not going to pay you," …

Apropos of nothing, sharing this little except from Prince’s memoir, “The Beauiful Ones”: “…they keep trying to ram […] Ed Sheeran down our throats and we don't like it no matter how many times they play it.”
about competition, how can we outsell. Monkeys and primates could sell music. With Clear Channel [a radio and media conglomerate, since rebranded as iHeart-Media] it becomes like Soylent Green-people feeding people to people. We need to tell them that they keep trying to ram Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran down our throats and we don't like it no matter how many times they play it.
