We were watching a Poirot & I said “She was in Mike Leigh’s Happy Go Lucky!” But I was wrong and named four other Mike Leigh movies, two of which she actually had been in. Anyway it turned out this particular Poirot episode had at least two people who’d been in Mike Leigh’s “Naked” 15 years earlier

Another Fine Sign of the Times: Bob Dylan once played with Bobby Vee, back when the original Bobby Z was fresh off the Iron Range. Dylan was riding on the singer's coattails. Last week at the Fine Line, the new, neon-lit nightclub on First Avenue, Bobby Vee's kids played with Beej Chaney, late of The Suburbs. It must have been a big kick for them, playing with one of the local heroes and riding his hat rack. They want Beej to produce their album. The Bobby V boys, known as The Vees, and their cult star leader were scheduled to play Friday and
• Saturday. But Prince preempted the foursome's Saturday night gig with a special unannounced jazz set. Yes, that's jazz. As in fusion, Madhouse and Miles Davis - not necessarily in that order.

It was this month, October, in 1959 when Robert Zimmerman started using the stage name Bob Dillon at the Ten o’clock Scholar in Minneapolis. He’d just arrived from Hibbing for his first year at the University of Minnesota and was trying to make a (new) name for himself at the folk clubs of Dinkytown

On this day in 1981, the band resumed the recording of Chronic Town. ‘1,000,000’ and ‘Stumble’ from the session made it onto the EP, joining 'Wolves, Lower' and 'Gardening at Night', which were recorded there six months earlier. ‘Carnival of Sorts (Boxcars)’ was added the following in January.
