Wait, what??? I think a lot of nerds in Russia are familiar with Eskov's book, but I always thought that a) nobody outside of Ru knows it b) Eskov writing was a bit tongue in chick, "look guys how clever I am" (compared to the "Black Book of Arda" which is more "serious" in tone

Fishing some 5,300 years ago: a Neolithic fishhook made of a wild boar tusk, wrapped with a fishing line. The size of the fishhook is 6.5 cm. It was used to catch pikes. Found in the lake-dwelling settlement of Arbon Bleiche 3, Switzerland. On display at Archäologisches Museum Frauenfeld 📷me 🏺
The picture shows a fishhook made of wild boar tusk. Only the curved, pointed end and the upper part are visible. The rest is wrapped in fishing line. The fishing line is made of twisted bast.

It's also worth reading the postscript about Bsky. Some won't agree, but after fleeing the unpleasantness of what twitter became, this community should be concerned it's created an echo chamber in which any departure from a line is attacked (reasonable discussion =/ tolerating bigotry/misinfo).

how about some good news: new cat just dropped!!!!
a photo of a small, spotted wild cat, with orange fur and brown circular markings, staring up with big golden eyes.Meet the First New Cat Species Discovered in 100 Years

A small, spotted tiger cat from Bolivia may just be the beginning of a wave of new small cat species.

This 10-year-old male tiger cat is the first of his species (named Leopardus tilcayo) known to science. He is approximately 18 inches from head to end of body and weighs only 3 pounds, making him smaller than the average domestic cat. This video was captured at the Senda Verde Animal Refuge in Bolivia’s Yungas region, where he currently resides.
