i think it’s also about ossoff wanting to write the narrative of his victory preemptively. he doesn’t want the story to be that he won because of inflation. he wants it to be that he won because he went scorched earth against MAGA bigotry.

the super intelligence shit is a humiliation ritual for openAI and the sector more broadly, to see if they change their name I think. I unfortunately think it's actual in terms of regime politics relatively smart.

Throwing trans folks under the bus will not make Republicans vote for you. They already have a Republican candidate, they won’t want your watered down “Republican lite”. Dems have got to learn than the strategic position IS the moral one if you know how to campaign and communicate.

Hierarchy is what keeps you from being able to exist comfortably and in pluralistic harmony with all the various flows of humanity. It keeps you locked into arborescent modes of thinking. Until we slay that dragon, we cannot be free.

The nonfascist right has no such vision. They tell you that your place in society is a part of a natural hierarchy ordained by a strangely human god who reflects their prejudices and worldly goals. They defend the status quo because it empowers them and those like them.

The left offers a competing vision: the world sucks and is unfair but it is that way because your labor is exploited by people who force you to labor for them to purchase what you need to live back from them with a fake medium of exchange they pretend has value.

And if you can suborn enough liberals who are scared that economic equity means the loss of their bourgeois comfort, your movement has legs: the libs will ally with you to murder the left, and then you can murder the libs.

This is Nazi rhetoric, full stop. It's not only a call to instigate a race war in the United States, but it's reminiscent of historic European justifications used to incite pogroms against Jews. People who say things like this are incredibly dangerous, as there is nothing they won't eventually do.

I genuinely mean this. I cannot imagine a more bleak dystopian notion than the idea of all art being turned into slop designed to coddle my exact perceived intentions. The point of literature, film, music, and art is to be exposed to the interior lives of others. Who are these people.

Front cover text:
"WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN AMERICA HAS A DICTATOR?
IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE
A Novel by
SINCLAIR LEWIS"

Background includes an image of a red fasces with a green olive branch.

Back cover text:
"'Vulgar, almost illiterate, a public liar easily detected… He was an actor of genius'

A vain, outlandish, anti-immigrant, fear-mongering demagogue runs for President of the United States – and wins. Sinclair Lewis's chilling 1935 bestseller is the story of Buzz Windrip, who promises poor, angry voters that he will make America proud and prosperous once more, but takes the country down a far darker path. As the new regime slides into authoritarianism, newspaper editor Doremus Jessop can't believe it will last – but is he right? This cautionary tale of liberal complacency in the face of populist tyranny shows it really can happen here."

mathletes go to war against the machines

AHM Statement on OpenAls October 6 Release of Mathematical
 Documents
Yesterday, on October 6th, 2026, OpenAl - which is currently defending lawsuits against
accusations of illegal plagiarism, copyright infringement, and trademark dilution -
released a repository of manuscripts purporting to contain solutions to a number of high-
 profile problems in mathematics.
Mathematicians did not ask for this work to be done. The Advisory Group on Mathematics
and Artificial Intelligence, from whom OpenAl has claimed to derive its legitimacy, opened
their initial advisory statement by saying that frontier Al corporations should not test
advanced mathematical problems on internal models. In ignoring the central premise of
the Advisory Group's position, OpenAl has indicated total disregard for the norms of
scientific research - norms that guarantee that mathematics remains trustworthy,
ethically researched, and in the public interest.
Mathematicians have a particular vision of progress that is informed by history and field-
specific considerations. We reject OpenAl's assertion that this release advances our
subject, and we urge mathematicians and the public to view the value of this publication
 model with due skepticism.
Releasing over 700 files at once is not a demonstration of scholarship, but a demonstration
of power. We urge mathematicians to discontinue their work with OpenAl and to return to a
vision of science that centers human understanding.
 Association for Human Mathematics
 Communications Working Group

In a political system where companies can be gouged for unlimited cash, inconsistent application of the law is a powerful financial opportunity. At some point some of these companies might realize they are better off under a predictable and impartial legal system rather than a personalist one.

Yup. Consider everything we do in commercial aerospace (a MUCH simpler domain, mind you). Mandatory retirement ages, flight checks, periodic health reviews, years of training, sim time. All to integrate a now *fully managed* human into the automation, in part.
