Hmm Work in HE learning & teaching, particularly student engagement & learning analytics. Also, love the Peak District and TTRPGs. Mostly here for the jokes. Apologies if discussion about pedagogy is interrupted with DND jokes and vice versa.

Immensely proud to have run* today’s Robin Hood half marathon on behalf of Nottingham Refugee Forum. There is still time to donate - the charity does incredible work in the city, providing a welcoming community space, specialised advice and support to refugees *shuffled and walked

My favourite fact about Iceland is that we have many, many crime writers but only one forensic pathologist, and he was so busy answering all of their questions that he decided to have a small seminar for writers to get some peace. It immediately sold out so he had another one that also sold out.

It's just weird isn't it when the British Museum is running a sold-out exhibition, when The Odyssey reports $1billion at the box office, when the V&A has just opened the most innovative and accessible museum model in Europe....and this is what our minister for research comes out with.

80 year-olds with pro-Palestine signs: arrested as terrorists. Greens planning to block a road, to highlight an existential crisis: sent down for years. Masked far-right thugs blocking roads and ports, using intimidation, obstruction & threatening behaviour: no arrests. The real two-tier policing.

I’ve noticed a disturbing credulity amongst some anti-development activists, who seem to think that Reform UK would want to protect the environment (yes, really). The party’s proposals today to rip up environmental duties on developers ought to slay that idea: www.reformparty.uk/policies/pla...

Afraid I profoundly disagree with this paper, the theory of performance management when turned into reality becomes one of the most divisive morale-ruining events in the calendar, an opportunity to let bullying run amok particularly with the fallacies of distribution curves.

Anyway, Brian Eno said it best:
Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature.
CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It's the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.

Instagram post from the official Muppets account: Few humans have earned the title of honorary Muppet more than the legendary Tim Curry. As a performer he was unparalleled - witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny. We will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silver’s crew. Thank you for everything, Tim.

Dolly Parton has died after a ‘brief battle with cancer.’

Not sure if this is relevant but:

She donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University in April 2020, helping fund early research that contributed to the development of the Moderna vaccine.

On 2 March 2021, she publicly received her first Moderna vaccine dose at Vanderbilt Medical Center and filmed the event.

She encouraged the public to get vaccinated, saying she wanted to encourage everybody to get their shot and called those who didn’t ‘cowards’.

She rewrote her song “Jolene” as “Vaccine” while getting the injection, singing that people shouldn't hesitate.

She never commented on the phenomenon of turbo cancer
