Russia has a big problem. Its nuclear threats have declined in efficacy with use, and no-one in the West watches boring and scary mainstream news anyway. All the more reason to stage some sort of conventional provocation, which okay might be tolerable but might go wrong in a serious miscalculation.

This is absolutely true. What’s more concerning is that Uni finance heads continue regardless. No one, and I repeat NO ONE, knows how much it costs to deliver a module or a programme at Exeter. We have shown them their errors, offered more realistic data, but agreeing with UCU would ruin accounting.

Universities, cont.: any high level data in most faculties will bear no resemblance to the school and field level data it summarises, and the university stats based on the faculty numbers will scramble and garble them again. Then the report to regulators will distort everything once more. (1/2)

This is one of the key points you need to be briefed on re: universities. All, and I mean all, of the basic data is trash and everyone knows it. Riding the good years between about 1998 and 2016, that didn't matter. Now it matters a lot, but there's no time to fix it.

The nightmarish world of Britain's universities is detailed in the thread below. Its chaotic and if I'm honest pathetic state shows why this is not about money. More cash would just be pumping resource into a leaky bucket. The whole structure needs to change.
