Hmm Work in HE learning & teaching, particularly student engagement & learning analytics. Also, love the Peak District and TTRPGs. Mostly here for the jokes. Apologies if discussion about pedagogy is interrupted with DND jokes and vice versa.

Sorry - I think Albie Fiore was a great writer, but this is a bad ‘3 bugbears live two doors down from 6 kobolds’ scenarios. As a setting - it’s exquisite. In the middle is the C 02 wizard mini I used for Thane in the scenario (not to scale with the map)

I love seasons, but I’m sick of the cold now. Just come across a tiny clump of Marsh Celandine - spring must be coming #FuckYouWinterMarshCelandineIsHere

First open mic of the year. Played the Hand and Heart in Nottingham (it has caves) with some of the usual Emma Bladon Jones gang. I only head butted the mic stand once, so by my standards, a win.

I have a new theory about why Trump is interested in Greenland #InspiredByBiscuits
It’s a visual joke about a polar bear on the front of a packet of biscuits looking a bit like a certain President. I mean, it’s not that funny in the first place, but now I have to explain it - well you’re not missing much.

I’ve finally caught Covid (possibly for the first time - look at me being fashionably late). It’s passed through and I waved it off with a walk in the Upper Dove valley yesterday. I couldn’t get the sunset from the valley bottom, but caught this on the way home

It’s taken a few years, but this afternoon I climbed the last of the 95 most significant hills in the Peak District (Ethels) with some important friends. Thank you.

I think we need to be a bit careful here. No doubt he’s talking bollocks for an audience, but HE already carries out a wide range of roles (research is only part of the mix). Nobody objects when we train doctors, teachers etc. The text below is from the Robbins Report (1963) #NotAllOxbridge
The report also concluded that university places "should be available to all who were qualified for them by ability and attainment" (the so-called Robbins principle) and that such institutions should have four main "objectives essential to any properly balanced system: instruction in skills; the promotion of the general powers of the mind so as to produce not mere specialists but rather cultivated men and women; to maintain research in balance with teaching, since teaching should not be separated from the advancement of learning and the search for truth; and to transmit a common culture and common standards of citizenship."

After a fortnight with a cold, I’ve got out and done a decent walk in DH Lawrence country. It’s a good lift (even if my legs are a bit sore)

I love #KULeuven our venue for #EFYE2025. I’m perpetually fascinated by signs in University settings as manifestations of rules and expectations. “… do not leave early” 😂

I stepped up to help @wcarey.bsky.social with the #EFYE2025 welcome workshop for new delegates as unfortunately @dianen.bsky.social couldn’t quite make it. It was a great session and reminded me what I really enjoy about the First Year Experience theory and communities of practice

#efye2025 If you find this sign you are almost at registration. It takes place in the building behind the sign, but you’ll need to turn right and walk around the corner to get to it.

I took a walk in the dark last night across the fields behind my home town. Occasionally I come across a herd of deer; this is the first time I’ve met them in the snow.

One of the best things about living in Nottingham is the annual Hockley Hustle: 400 bands playing across the city today. Noise were brilliant this afternoon
