Two panel comic. Panel 1: a bat hangs upside-down from a telephone line at sunset. The bat is in front of a billboard advertising the Florida Mega Jackpot, which is valued at $5,318,008 - represented with a digital ticker. Panel 2: the POV flips to the bat’s upside-down perspective, which makes the digital numbers look like they spell “BOOBIES”. The bat appears delighted.

In upside-down world, Justice Alito blames "the plaintiff States and the courts" for causing the late timing of USPS' attempt to interfere in mail voting by suing to stop it. Unmentioned by Alito: USPS issued the rule in violation of an injunction. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...
Second, the plaintiff States and the courts bear a substantial share of the blame for the rule’s timing. In April, the plaintiff States sued to challenge the President’s internal directive to subordinates mandating a rulemaking. For months, this litigation cast a cloud over the Government’s ability to issue a final rule. The District Court entered several injunctions months later prohibiting the Government from undertaking that rulemaking. Not only was the Government subject to months of premature litigation and a series of injunctions that this Court later determined were likely issued without jurisdiction, the Government had to wait nearly another full month for this Court to issue its decision so holding. Indeed, this Court spent from late July to the end of August drafting nearly 40 pages of opinions, including two dissents, despite the Government’s public notice that it would not publish a final rule while subject to the injunctions, see 91 Fed. Reg. 44880, and its representation that it had a strong interest in issuing its rule in early- to mid-August to allow time to implement it. The plaintiff States cannot claim the timing of the rule tilts the equities

So $SPCX swallowing $TSLA is absolutely happening. www.wsj.com/business/aut...
Elon Musk designed Tesla's [TSLA 353% 1 China business to be easily separated from its U.S. business because of geopolitical tensions. It might also come in handy if he
proceeds with a Space SPCX 0.31% merger.
Musk in recent years instructed Tesla executives to organize the company with a "laser" between its U.S. and China businesses, according to people familiar with the planning. He wanted to ensure that in the event of geopolitical strife between the two countries, at least the U.S. half of Tesla would survive.
Now, some Tesla executives have been told to prepare for a separation of the China business ahead of a potential merger, a person familiar with those talks said.
And Tesla advisers have discussed possible options for a separation, including a spinoff, sale or closure, another person said.Musk was particularly concerned about Tesla's dependence on China for battery cells and feared its access to semiconductors could be jeopardized if Beijing invaded Taiwan, the people familiar with the planning said. The goal was to be ready for 2026 or 2027 in anticipation of a war, they said.
Separating Tesla's China operations-including an electric-vehicle factory there-would address potential conflicts arising from SpaceX's work as a major U.S. defense contractor. Such a deal would aim to create a firewall between Tesla's Chinese subsidiary and its U.S.
business.
SpaceX faces significant restrictions due to its dealings with the U.S. government. The company is a major national-security defense contractor, with business lines that include launching top-secret satellites and operating internet services in war zones like Ukraine.

i wrote about my favorite odyssey adaptation, o brother where art thou (2000)
Emily Wilson is a scholar of The Odyssey and I am not, so I'll gladly defer to her on all matters of what the poem says or what it meant historically. I'm more concerned here with its status in our culture as a dead thing from nearly three thousand years ago, one more unappealing item on a bored middle schooler's assigned reading list. In Homer's age, The Odyssey must have been alive, no? It was the thriller of the season, for hundreds of seasons in a row! It was packed with everyone's favorite adventure stories! I can't imagine those audiences listening to it in the dutiful, lofty, museum-going spirit so many of us reserve for our infrequent brushes with "high culture." When I imagine ancient Greek audiences hearing the poem, I think of the crowd at a wrestling match I attended recently, of the moment when a wrestler produced a folding chair wrapped in barbed wire. YOU SICK FUCK, we all hollered in delight as he advanced on his cowering opponent.
YOU SICK FUCK YOU SICK FUCK YOU SICK FUCK!
