I'm making a documentary about the RLNI situation and I am contacting various organisations. However I thought I'd turn to bluesky as well, I'm looking to interview people either connected to the RNLI, to refugees/those working with refugees and also with counter-protestors. Please share.

It's just weird isn't it when the British Museum is running a sold-out exhibition, when The Odyssey reports $1billion at the box office, when the V&A has just opened the most innovative and accessible museum model in Europe....and this is what our minister for research comes out with.

One reason England does so well is our second generation immigrants outperform their peers which is not true in most OECD countries. We are also very good at integration. And it's v sad that this is never acknowledge in debates on immigration.

Why can't some children read well after 11 yrs of school? Some argue it is deprivation, lack of intelligence, poor motivation, presumed disabilities or parenting. In this podcast, we show how those beliefs don’t hold water & that teaching is the solution. Thanks to @daisychristo for her expertise.

Feels like we should do some kind of economic analysis on this kind of thing. Because if we were pointlessly killing an essentially export good that gave substantial economic upside with minimal downside that would be a bad thing. The would be a bad thing, right?

It’s just depressing. Further education has been cut to ribbons. Higher education is in crisis. Labour turns its eyes to the bit of the education system which is turning out the highest literacy rates in the western world and goes “that’s the bit that needs to change”

It might be time for Labour to admit that the kids bunking school or messing around in class are not usually sending hidden signals that they really want to be electricians and would work hard at that instead.

New from me: Britain’s graduate earnings premium is falling, cue “too many go to university!” But non-university outcomes are also bad, cue “we must reform vocational routes!” Both miss the point: people used to think education drove economic outcomes, but the economy drives educational outcomes.

At the heart of this very weird discourse is a belief that adults have the ability to minutely dictate a child's identity. Lots of people have pointed out that this bans George from the Famous Five; it bans children choosing clothing, haircuts and nicknames. It denies children social individuality.

1. The fundamental problem with the SEND white paper is it's working off the assumption there's lots of expertise and great practice available and the issue is it's too hard to get. The underpinning belief is if this support got to children faster and without a fight things will get better fast.
