In a sane sector this would have no credibility.

Just remembered the "architects are the best school leaders" research that went from Schools Week to Newsnight and lots of people told us the researchers were "serious people" and then after 6 weeks no-one mentioned it again. Did that happen?

I tweeted about this ages ago, but my kids are sitting at dinner laughing about when C was listening to the Stone Roses and said in response “Why on earth would anyone want to be a door?” 😂

Who Paid the Highest Price for COVID School Closures?
Who suffered most from COVID school closures? A PISA study suggests the answer depends on the country and how remote learning was organised.

It continually blows my mind the sheer number of obviously crackers ideas and excuse-making for failure from the last government that Labour have gone “seems legit!”…while at the same time Labour refuses to acknowledge the real, measurable success in education.

Fantastic news. Our education system is world leading. The result of two decades of hard work by teachers and students, and really good policy choices that many others are now emulating.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... Congratulations to all our teachers and leaders! We are international top 10 for reading, maths and science, and are bucking global trends of learning decline 👏

UK pupils rank highly in international reading, maths and science tests
But the Pisa test scores vary significantly between England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

31% of Welsh teenagers scored below Level 2 in reading assessments. Much more than other UK countries. The OECD defines Level 2 as the minimum level of skills required to effectively participate in society.

They'll be a lot of chatter about England's PISA results this morning, but we need to talk just as much about Wales. They rejected phonics and knowledge-rich curricula in favour of 'areas of learning', 'skills suites' and barely any testing. Wales is now 40 points below England in every domain.

New PISA data out England is now top ten in all three areas (reading, maths, science) and the second highest performing country outside of east Asia (after Estonia). This is a huge public policy success.

My wife looking at her phone, sees researchEd tweets: "Oh, I need to buy you some new clothes. No-one has worn stuff like that for a few years." Me: Oh I don't care about that. Her: Yes, that's why I need to buy you new clothes. Sake.

tbh "don't have a barbecue there's a good lad" is actually a pretty good message to be sending out to everyone on Friday night before the hottest driest weekend of the August holidays. If we were Australia or something we would be used to this but we're not; this is adaptation

It’s just depressing. Further education has been cut to ribbons. Higher education is in crisis. Labour turns its eyes to the bit of the education system which is turning out the highest literacy rates in the western world and goes “that’s the bit that needs to change”

The UK economy has problems. There's been barely any per capita GDP growth or real income growth in about 20 years. Policymakers would be better off finding solutions for this than getting primary schools to make lists of children at risk of unemployment. substack.nomoremarking.com/p/schools-ar...

Knowledge and skills a false dichotomy is itself a false dichotomy. This is like talking of ingredients and cake, & confusing component and composite. Or process and outcome. One leads to the other (and the other is pretty vague). We don’t need “both” through the process.

I’m not actually sure I believe that a school let Joshua Bonehill-Paine through the door. It would have required all sorts of risk assessments including a script and a plan for if he said something unsavoury.

Piece of land a stones throw from me had a proposal for houses. I was principled and vocal locally about not being a NIMBY. Regularly criticised the Lib Dem councillors who led the NIMBYism. It was turned down. Now they are going to build a Lidl there. I feel very snobby and NIMBYish about this.

Thought I was quite liberal and forgiving of modern pressures when considering parenting & screens. But on holiday in this hotel I’m shocked at how ubiquitous big screens are even for very very young children. All meals, during all other “entertainment”, by the pool, everywhere and all the time.

Lee Dixon was terrible tonight. I think hearing for about an hour about how he doesn’t think a player meant to score and assuming anyone cares or it matters was the worst.
