Today I took 8 Yr5&6 SEMH boys to do some #ArtHistory at Nottm Castle and they were wonderful 🥰 They went into the gallery clutching their print outs, remembered their research and connoisseurship from last week, asked questions, made suggestions and spent the best part of an hour with one painting.

I've talked to a few journal editors who are concerned about similar problems re: anonymous reviewers. If a peer reviewer wants a little help & feeds your unpublished submission into an AI system, they've just shared your proprietary work & broken confidentiality. A nightmare to think about

Well. I did my first Art History lesson with Yr5/6. There was a distinct element of cat-herding but most of them seemed to engage a bit. Going to see the painting at the Castle on Monday #PrayForBeth

One of the TAs supporting me today was thumbing through one of the art books pretty randomly and found a painting that stopped him so hard it made him cry. That was pretty cool.

🎨 Events for Young People at Art History Festival 2026 There’s plenty to explore at this year’s Art History Festival, with events for young people spanning colour, curating, surrealism, collage, clay and film.

Today I started the Royal Ballet and Opera Cultural Champions programme. Not a bad day, seem a good bunch (I'm going to have a careers focus), but as with anything cultural/arts there were activities. Highlights included "We're going to play a game" and "Pick a card with someone who inspires you".

Today I have been learning about 'Englishness' and critical heritage studies. It's all very interesting and offers some cracking routes of exploration for the way the country seems atm. I have also found I am rubbish at writing 'heritage' fluidly and have an 'ita' mess every time.

This morning I've spent a couple of hours reading about the concept of nation and imagined communities, particularly through census, maps and museums. Howard just got tricked into engaging in a pre-8:30 discussion and debate. Not even had his chocolate milk yet. Poor Howard.
