On one hand, we are consigning millions to an early death and millions more to abject misery. But on the other, you can pay $1,000/month lease to drive a super heterosexual pickup down an eight lane stroad to an Islands Burger next to a Chick-fil-A surrounded by 300 parking spaces.

The Mayor looks joyous and authentic here. You're an absolute anhedonic ghoul if you think there's anything bad about this. Again, the criticisms (she pays for childcare!) reveal a group of bitter, bad-faith losers who are furious they don't have a rich guy on speed dial in that office anymore.

TL;DR: The Seattle Times editorial board is showing its entire ass. They are desperate to have Katie Wilson fail, and they're willing to make up bizarre conspiracy theories to facilitate that outcome.

seattle will have 4 count em 4 public golf courses accessible by light rail. and a way under-assessed private one that could be accessible by BRT. anyway it's unfortunate we don't take climate action seriously.

Design Review is a city program that 1️⃣slows and adds cost to homebuilding, and 2️⃣results in minor design changes to some buildings without evidence of net improvement. 3️⃣Architects "comply in advance" which leads to mediocre design. 4️⃣It employs ~12 people, who could expedite building permits instead.

When you bike on the 520 bridge, it is very easy to see that 80% of drivers on the HOV are alone in their car… even with the state patrol on the bridge in the morning and evening today, buses are stuck behind dozens of single-occupant cars when merging at the end of the HOV,or exiting at Montlake.

Once again, visually confirmed today that 80% of cars are single occupants on this 3+ HOV exit… this really slows down buses… will @wsdot.wa.gov or @transportation.seattle.gov do anything to make this a bus-only exit?

We’ve been stuck in environmental review purgatory for 5 years (half a decade, for a Comp Plan process we are required to do every 10 years) and we’re still not done. Meanwhile, we are in a housing and climate crisis and our hands are tied by SEPA.

Rerouting and reclaiming SR 99 through South Park would result in an 86% reduction in Pollution Generating Impervious Surfaces, per this report. It really seems like that would help Southern Resident Killer Whales more than keeping housing banned.
Chart showing the reroute and reclaim option would reduce PGIS by 86%.

A-Pillar blindspots aren't limited to bloated trucks and massive SUVs. My family has a Subaru Crosstrek which is by no means huge but suffers from this same shortcoming. It freaks me out and makes me so wary when driving through crosswalks and intersections.

Montlake “HOV” exit on the lid: every car but one is single‑occupant and illegally slowing down buses. If we’re not going to enforce traffic law, we should make this exit bus‑only.

If we want better streetscapes, more livable units, and more tree canopy in Low Rise, lean into 'perimeter blocks' with interior courtyards. Push new buildings to the front for full width of lot, allow a little extra building area, and limit how much can be built in the backyard.

@ricoque-opcd.bsky.social Two blocks is not enough. We want Alternative 5 plus everything within 1/2 mile of frequent transit AS A START. That IS the “gradual” approach. Even this approach is too focused on business and not focused enough on families, parks, schools, etc.

Someone who's owned a house for decades and demands their block be preserved in amber for all time vs. someone staring down displacement for lack of workable housing options...these are not equally valid viewpoints. They are not! It's greed and selfishness vs. meeting a basic human need.
