The Urbanist and Ryan Packer in particular did an amazing job raising awareness of this issue early and often! Without that journalism and efforts from transit advocates, things would likely have turned out differently. Thank you, and this again highlights why local media matters.

Big win for Seattle consumers 🛒 Today we passed Fair Pricing legislation, banning companies from using your personal data to charge you more than the person next to you. Same product, same store, same price — no matter who’s pushing the cart.
Photo of a bag of groceries with the text “Seattle Becomes First City to Ban Algorithmic Price Fixing”"Food is an essential good that's getting more expensive all the time," said Mayor Katie Wilson.
"People have been clear: they don't want their data fed into algorithms that decide how much they pay at the grocery store.
Everyone deserves transparent pricing and equal treatment, not hidden systems that charge some shoppers more than others.”

Regulating AI isn’t a partisan issue — there’s widespread pushback/concern against AI and AI data centers across the spectrum. I hope that if/when Dems regain the House (and hopefully Senate), regulating AI is a priority and that Rs join. It’s urgent and necessary and the people would support it!

Worth reading. The sooner we start regulating and putting some protections and guardrails in place, the better off we will all be. This technology is advancing so quickly and relying on “self-regulation” is basically meaningless and no regulation.

Eduardo Aguirre and his wife, Stacey Fitzpatrick, at their home in Wallingford. Aguirre was arrested by ICE last week and is now being held in a detention facility in Texas. Text overlayed reads, "ICE ARRESTS CONTRACTOR IN THE MIDDLE OF WEST SEATTLE CONSTRUCTION JOB"Eduardo Aguirre was working in West Seattle when masked ICE agents arrested him and brought him to Texas, without any hearing or notification to his wife or attorney.

He is married to a US citizen, owns a small business, has no criminal record, and has lived in the US for over 20 years. This is who ICE is targeting –– not the so-called, "worst of the worst."

The amount of taxes we pay to the feds compared to what we get in return is outrageous. This needs much more attention, including from our businesses. The reason we keep increasing local taxes (the only ones we can keep 100%) is because so much of our state & fed taxes are going elsewhere.

The Seattle Times Editorial Board, which has consistently opposed any efforts to loosen the city's zoning standards, thinks the SEPA appeals process is working great and uses vague hand-waving about "the environment" to make their case.
These are not good days for the environment.
Seemingly by the hour, the Trump administration announces a new policy that shrinks habitat protections, attacks science, and places commerce ahead of our responsibilities to the planet and future generations.
But the trend isn’t limited to Trump. Just look at the Seattle City Council.
Last week, the council Land Use & Sustainability Committee voted to approve CB 121215, a bill that would strip citizens’ rights to appeal environmental findings to the Seattle Hearing Examiner in major land-use and zoning changes. It would also restrict the ability of residents to question impacts of city projects such as new athletic fields.
CB 121215 was drafted by Councilmember Eddie Lin in response to a Seattle classical musician’s recent court victory challenging the city.
