It is frankly climate denialism to say we're just going to rebuild these tracks over and over again at great expense and not move them off the beach (which is strikingly absent from this article).

It's wild to me that, while Del Mar alts are fairly far along in study, the best we have for san clemente track relocation is an OC supe saying earlier this month that OCTA will 'soon' embark on a study to relocate the tracks... IN 30 YEARS. They intend to keep the tracks here for 3 MORE DECADES.

Yes this should be a single unified procurement. Why are these already already almost EOL. I'd expect to see 6-7 years not 3-4 even if this is basically a repackaged phone.

The only sane way to do this via land would be upgrading several lines and buying a dedicated pool of electric locomotives, building a conveyor belt on rails. Been done in other parts of the world and arguably in the US as well but it takes cooperation across industries.

People want to talk about trains but are missing out on the transformative power of a well-organized bus network. Colorado's Bustang has knocked intercity bus service out of the park and added 18 new routes since launching Bustang in 2015. Illinois should directly copy Colorado's success.

I’ve spent 3/5 days doing modbus configuration and there’s still more to do. I want to be done already. Not helped by the fact that we have almost no documentation on how 1 family of meters was configured so it’s blind checking.

We should retire the standard queen & double/full size beds and only do California queens & double/full XL. The extra 4in of length is incredible nice to have and doesn’t significantly change what rooms they can fit in.

Waymo makes transit service worse in San Francisco. Their vehicles block bus zones, double park where the bus cannot get by, get stuck and generally suck. They are also getting noticeably worse as time goes on and the company pushes the boundaries of what it can get away with.

Trolley problem meme for “Bay Area regional transit measure”, with the options being “pass: higher sales tax” with one person on the tracks or “fail: wreck the entire local economy” with five people on the tracks

HCD also smacked down Beverly Hills' attempt to limit density bonus height in their local alternative plan (Palo Alto next!), and Burlingame's attempt to get out of SB 79 by rezoning their high school and train tracks (please be serious, cities) www.hcd.ca.gov/sites/defaul...
Obligations Under Other State Housing Laws
Additionally, the City is advised that because a TODAP is part of a local jurisdiction’s municipal code, other state housing laws apply that operate independently of the TODAP provisions, including the State Density Bonus Law (SDBL) pursuant to Government Code sections 65915-65918, not the modified version of SDBL in section
65912.157, subdivision (d). Therefore, pursuant to the SDBL, the City must remove language referencing and incorporating section 65912.157, subdivision (d) from Section 10-3-5102.8 (A) of its TODAP Ordinance.

Metrolink has gone 6 months without a budget. With no dedicated funding, member agencies cannot agree on whether to run more or fewer trains. No one has stepped up with a plan to fill the funding gap, like the Bay Area has. This is no way to run a transit system. Governance reform now!

I’m flying to Anaheim next week, and I’d so much rather take BART to high speed rail to Metrolink. It probably would only take an hour more, would be a much better experience, and I wouldn’t have to worry about my flights getting canceled. We need high speed rail yesterday.

BART would cost over a quarter of a trillion dollars to build today. We should start acting like we have a quarter trillion dollar investment in this infrastructure. Instead we call BART a hassle and a burden and starve it for funds. This is a level of privilege that cannot even be described.

There are locomotives that perform better, more reliable, cheaper to buy & maintain. It just involves not sending hundreds of billions to shareholders and instead investing in electrification. India in less than a 15 years put 31k route miles under wire

In addition to taking back the CalTrain name/brand the state should be running a lot more intercity buses under a name like CalBus. The intercity bus network is the easiest and cheapest part of the state rail plan to implement. We can also have buses run future rail routes to kickstart ridership
