After voting, YIMBY Action leads couldn't reach a consensus on Prop 45, and won't be making an endorsement! This means that not a single YIMBY org in California is endorsing the measure (with one opposed). CEQA "reform" for sprawl & freeways is bad! Glad most of us recognize this. No on 45!

Why did a High-Speed Rail Authority board member carve CAHSR out of Prop 45 (on the ballot in November), which streamlines a variety of more harmful projects from CEQA?
The law has long helped stave off problems for communities, wild spaces and ecosystems and, as such, has been praised for enhancing California's natural landscapes and quality of life. But CEQA is also blamed for obstructing needed work, and critics have no shortage of examples of when the regulation has brought seemingly endless delays and frivolous lawsuits.
"It's egregious to suggest we need housing proposals to go on for 19 years and we need a decade of public comments " said Jason Elliott, a longtime policy guru and onetime advisor to Gov. Gavin Newsom. Elliott helped write Proposition 45.

YIMBY Action leads are voting on a recommendation for Prop 45 today. If you or any of your friends are on the fence, I highly recommend reading this great thread. Tl;dr: AB130 already exempted infill housing from CEQA. Prop 45 would just open the floodgates for sprawl.

You mean to tell me that building more sprawl doesn't actually do anything for urban affordability and is instead predominantly a wealth transfer from those areas to exurban ones? I'm shocked! Anyway, vote no on Prop 45.

Uh, it's actually extremely easy to prove otherwise? Urban consumption is a minuscule fraction of overall water usage in this country. Look to the agricultural sector if you want to see where all our water is going.

I think the "stop inflation at all costs" takes are bad, but Trump did promise to lower prices immediately, and instead they continued to rise. And certain common products that Trump specifically promised to make cheaper instead rose in price quite a lot. Now voters are punishing Trump for lying.

The original sin of American electricity strikes again:
Another design factor encouraging the use of overhead distribution was the adoption of the single-phase, 110-220 volt, three-wire power delivery system.
In Europe, where underground
where underground distribution
distribution 1s commonplace, the majority of elec-
trical distribution systems use a design voltage of double the North American standard -- an important element in determining costs, since European lines with double our voltage can run four times as far, given the same power loss, or, alternatively, can carry four times the load over the same distance. Con-
sequently, larger
larger and Iewer transiormers can be used.
and fewer transformers can be used. Lower labor wage rates
(a significant proportion of total underground installation expense in this country is represented by labor cost) also play a role in promoting underground distribution in Europe.
