Here is an example of how AI cannot be used to determine cause and effect. Suppose you want to know the impact of CO2 on climate. With a physics model, you run two simulations, one with the current atmosphere and a second with the current atmosphere but without CO2.

AI has its limits. It is not so good as physical models for predicting weather extremes www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... has little ability to predict normal weather past 15-30 days or determine cause & effect like a physical model, so no ability to predict impacts of chemicals on future climate.

The more WindWaterSolar, the more reliable a grid in terms of matching supply with demand. Data show more WWS as a fraction of grid electricity demand reduces not only retail electricity prices with statistical significance but also max annual wholesale prices with statistical significance.

After the worst heat of the year, fossil gas use is still 48% lower in 2026 than in 2023 and has supplied only 20% of all electricity in 2026 versus 39% in 2023. 189th >100% WWS day of 2026. 56.3% of all electricity during the year has been from WWS.

WWS supply has now exceeded 100% of demand on the California ISO grid for 18.5% of all hours in 2026. 56.2% of all demand in 2026 has been met by WWS. 187th 100% WWS day of the year on Sat, Sep. 13. WindWaterSolar continues to provide stable output in California, even through heat waves.

EV's use 1/4th the energy in electricity as ICEs use in gasoline or diesel, so even if electricity is from coal, energy use & CO2 emis decrease 75% with every EV. Plus, the intake fraction of vehicle exhaust is 25x that of power-plant exhaust, so human pollution mortality goes down 99% with an EV

Yes, but heat isn't an excuse. A home with PV, good insulation, and heat pumps produces excess electricity on the hottest day of the year, sending the excess back to the grid, so uses zero net grid electricity. x.com/mzjacobson/s... The prob is TX needs more PV and better building standards

California pays the 13th-lowest grid electricity bills per capita in the US despite having the 2nd-highest electricity price. Texas pays the 38th-lowest bills per capital (21% higher than CA) despite half the electricity price as CA. Why, because TX consumes 2.5x the electricity per person as CA.

Not sure why this gets lost in basically every conversation about energy affordability, but the bills we pay depend on both prices and usage. Energy efficiency, from appliance standards to building codes, is the most effective energy affordability policy in US history and there's not a close 2nd.
