Denis Healey on David Owen
Healey kept a shelf of Spitting Image puppets as latex mementoes of his turbulent political life - among them Margaret Thatcher, Michael Foot, Neil Kinnock and David Owen. As he picked up the Owen puppet and squeezed it to make it squeak, I quoted Owen's view that when Healey stood for the Labour leadership in 1980 he “didn't have the guts to take on the left wing of the party”. “That's absolute bollocks," snorted Healey. “David Owen was a very self-centred person. He was good-looking, he was intelligent, he had immense charm and all these presents were given to him by the good fairy and then the bad fairy came along and tapped him on the shoulder and said, '... but you'll be a shit.”

Incredible Daily Express story (archive.is/SGo0K) about Sandie Peggie's upcoming action against the RCN, in which she continues to hound Dr Beth Upton who literally moved to the other side of the world to get away from Peggie's harassment, and which includes this frankly baffling paragraph:
Her fight for women's rights has come at significant personal cost. Her father passed away shortly before the first set of tribunal hearings, and in May this year her family dog, a seven-year-old Rottweiler called Broxi, had to be put down.

Bunker dance night organiser in bizarre emu attack dispute
The organisers of a dance music event in a disused military bunker appear to have been caught up in a bizarre emu attack dispute with the council. Subterranean Sound were forced to postpone a sold-out dance event in the Second World War-era Barnton Bunker, in west Edinburgh after issues arose with the event’s licensing. The organisers claimed that police had outlined a number of concerns with their applications for events and alcohol licences, including concerns about an attack by an emu – two of which are kept on site – at a previous event.
