the Vice President of the United States has gone on record citing this man as one of his biggest intellectual influences if you didn't know this, it's probably because for some reason literally no mainstream political media outlets think it's worth mentioning

Shipping costs used to be a huge component of the cost of goods. Paying surly dockers to spend a week unloading and loading a cargo hold by hand was expensive. It often was not worth it to import goods even if they could be made cheaper elsewhere, because of freight costs.

Normally I don't care about gas, but USPS added an 80 cent fuel surcharge to all packages. In an average year I get about 2,000 online orders, so that's $1600 the president is making me spend on postage that I could have spent on other things.

The fortress of their bigotry is immune to new facts and evidence, because their racism composes the first principles through which they interpret all other facts - racism is for the helmet crowd *more true* than the historical evidence, in that sense.

Moralists don't really *have* beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child's toy left on the carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded.

New Yorkers should know whether the apartment they’re looking at is real. That’s why we’re working to require apartment listings to clearly disclose when images and videos have been generated by AI. Finding a home in New York is hard enough without artificially generating more problems.

Is That Fireplace Real or A.I.?
Listing sites are littered with homes with fake fireplaces, improved views and virtual landscaping, raising false advertising concerns.

This means that if the average American spent an additional $1,000 per month in housing costs to live in a city where they could get around without a car, they'd still potentially be saving money.

From my post yesterday, posted BEFORE we learned she refused applying for a security clearance and BEFORE we learned world leaders get to Trump via Natalie. emptywheel.net/2026/08/19/n...
And all the while we’re not talking about what it means that anyone with a trusted relationship with Harp could learn anything about Donald Trump, could learn the content of all his meetings, all his messages, all his phone calls, could pass him — and pass on, in his name — any kind of untoward message.

Natalie Harp may be just what the far right wants to pretend she is: A staffer who has gone nutso for her boss, and therefore lavishes the kind of treatment on him that his increasingly fragile ego needs to function in the face of Narcissistic injuries.

But if she were something else, no one would be in a position to know about it.

The same climate experts whose model overestimated the potential of geological carbon storage have repeatedly underestimated solar power — one of the energy technologies that would allow more oil to remain in the ground. ➡️ Read our full story w/ @drilledmedia.bsky.social: propub.li/4gdTCBc
Two line charts are depicted. At the top, the line chart is labeled "Carbon Capture Capacity." The y-axis is "megatons" and the x-axis is years (2010-2040). More than a dozen blue lines show a steady increase from the left edge of the chart to the right edge of the chart. Some of the blue lines exceed 4,000 megatons between years 2030 and 2040. The blue lines are labeled "Projections". A maroon line is at around 0 megatons from 2010 to 2025. The maroon line is labeled "Actual carbon storage".

The second chart is labeled "Solar Power". The y-axis is "terawatt-hour" and the x-axis is years (2010-2040). Dozens of blue lines increase from around 0 on the left side of the chart, showing moderate growth from 2010 to 2040. The blue lines are labeled "Projections". A maroon line starts at 0 in 2010 and rises sharply to over 2,000 in 2024. The maroon line is obviously increasing much faster than the blue lines. The maroon line is labeled "Actual solar electricity production."

1. The Chief Safety Officer needs the power to halt a project if it isn't going to achieve the Vision Zero goal. SDOT knows which designs kill and which ones don't. Halting a project is extremely disruptive but deadly designs need to be eliminated early, while they're still on paper.

Becoming important for the wrong reasons is a ticking time bomb. UX made the same mistake in the 2010s: corpos were excited about the ability of designers to produce screens, so the entire practice oriented around UI to gain legitimacy. Forward to the 2020s: "Claude can do UI, why do we need you?"
