Companies always want to cut management. Their leaders now seem to think AI will let them do it like never before. Yet if I said something like, "why doesn't the military cut everyone between E-5 and O-6," I'd be laughed at.

"Middle management" means "anyone who has any institutional knowledge or knows how to do anything around here." They can temporarily save on compensation expense and then wonder why nothing works as well any more.

The strategy next time should be to indict everyone for everything, everywhere. The ex-president, if alive, should get a hundred indictments, spread across as many districts as possible, with as many state charges separately brought as possible. Cabinet members and aides should get dozens.

It is not hard arithmetic problem to come with a D+12 scenario. 10 point turnout diffential leading to D+5 electorate, indies are D+20, and 5% of Rs defect. It simply requires a level of exhaustion and crossovers not often seen. But remember that we're really in Trump's third term.

The language in this document is so odd. I can't quite articulate it, but it's like a combination of COSO framework jargon and 6th grader manifesto.

This just cites the definition of "artificial intelligence" in statute and says it is now something else even though the statute says "the president shall establish and implement an initiative to be known as the 'National Artificial Intelligence Initiative'".

According to the Silver forecast, right now the Democrats are as likely to win 265-270 House seats as to win a bare majority, and as likely to gain 10-12 Senate seats as to gain none.

Proclaiming their continued support for data centers and unregulated AI development subject only to arbitrary decisions by the president and his cronies. Sounds like a strong closing argument.

Whether an election is a trickle or a wave can depend on turnout. You can get a sense of turnout differentials from early voting. Whether an election is a wave or a tsunami depends on defections, which you can't see in advance. 1% of a party's voters defecting is worth 0.7-0.8% of margin.

We did get somewhat frequent double-digit generic ballot polls at the end of the 2010 and 2018 cycles. The 2010 final average missed high, but the Rs still easily flipped the House in the pre-gerrymander era. The 2018 average was accurate.

In 2022 and 2024, polls only moved significantly toward Republicans, the out-party, starting around 4 weeks before the election. On the other hand, they weren't accelerating toward the Democrats, the in-party, 5 weeks out.

I am now curious how a song tops the Billboard Hot 100 without any air play on top 40 or adult contemporary/lite FM stations in the country's largest media markets. Is it saturating middle markets? Is it burning down streaming services?

The other thing that an autodidact who makes his living by posting can never grasp, but which is obvious to most mature adults, is that success, however defined, rarely correlates strongly with intelligence, however defined, and that beyond some point, intelligence can be counterproductive.
