All in all, cracking opening to the key to time #BinroWasRight

I wonder if George RR Martin ever stumbled across this on PBS. The years-long winter, mysterious crypts and ice gods would suggest he did, although this has amazing light world building that serves to decorate the story without distracting from it, so it can't have made that much impact on him.

The Doctor too is unusually passively for much of this. However he does still have some fantastic moments, including getting to shove a bomb down the Graffs trousers. I like to picture that whenever modern Doctors bang on about being 'the man who never would'

Mary Tamm makes a solid debut. The Doctor/Romana dynamic is immediately fresh and interesting. They work well as another of the stories double acts. However, Holmes fails to give Romana anything really to do, and she gets lost among more interesting characters.

Holmes uses his old trick of writing double acts to marvellous effect. Not only are Garron and Unstoffe an amazingly funny pair (and an idea Holmes will recycle later on with Glitz and Dibber) but you've also got the Graff and his general as fantastic baddies.

The Ribos Operation. I really really like this one, not just because Doctor Who suddenly looks good again but because no other show could do a sci-fi/medieval crime caper, and that's why all other television is worthless.

The Vardens are a little rubbish, I think that's the joke though because the better baddies replace them but the problem is the Sontarans are also a little rubbish with their leader doing "Doctor Who monster" voice which I hate.

I think I should sue Graham Williams for whiplash because you go from that fantastic cavernous panopticon set to some crap brick corridor pretending to be inside the TARDIS. Wild stuff

Once they show up the wheels slightly come off and it starts to feel like the writers are desperately scrambling for an end which turns out to be Dr Who gets a big gun and starts blasting. Maybe he'd solve his problems faster if he always did that but it'd make for a worse program in my opinion.

The story itself is pretty good (upgraded to rather good when you read how last minute a job it was). You get 4 episodes of brilliant intrigue and adventure then in one of the shows best ever cliffhangers you get Sontarans. It's a great way to structure a script

The Doctor and Leela have always been a delight to watch and are easily the best thing season 15 has going for it. Once again I find myself surprised by how quickly I've made it through a cast that, for me, is one of the shows best.

Louise Jameson is also magnificent and I'm sad she doesn't get a better departure. Her romance with Andred isn't even half arsed, there's not any arse present.

The Invasion of Time. Not to once again drop a controversial take but Tom Baker is extraordinary isn't he? His performance here is just a ball of energy and oddness that no one else can match. The mystery of what the Doctor is planning gives him so much to work with and it's a joy to witness

I say this a lot but the Four Seasons Conference remains one of the funniest things that has ever happened in human history. Some of us have been gaslit into being told it was "cringe" or "resist lib" and it wasn't. It just hands down a fantastic, roaringly hilarious thing from start to finish.

Don't get me wrong, I love when they say the story title in the dialogue — I think it's the fun sort of cheesy — but I thought the one from Monster of Peladon always felt a bit forced.
The Queen of Peladon on panel 1: Maybe the true ‘Monster of Peladon’ was the sexism inherent in our monarchist system.

Sarah in Panel 2: Yeah, up women’s lib and all that,
but I almost got fed to an actual monster,
what the fuck are you talking about?

Exactly as predicted: Elder abuse. This is from Danny Trejo’s son, Gilbert Trejo. Not only did Ben Shapiro’s camp trick the elder Trejo about what the movie really was, he apparently signed a contract barring him from even putting out a statement about it.
For anyone seeing this shit with my dad...
He was booked on a film, it's not pro-ice, it's not overtly pro anything. His agent described it as "a complicated story about a complicated time, where everyone looks bad except you, the hardworking Mexican shop owner who just wants peace"
He jumped at the idea of playing a good guy.
About 2 weeks into shooting everyone, including us, found out Ben Shapiro was involved.
My 82 year old dad has never heard of Ben Shapiro, I had to explain to him who that is, and what kind of guy he is.
My dad contractually can't bad mouth him, the film, or walk away without being sued for breach of contract. He couldn't even release the statement he wanted to.
It's fucked up. He's handcuffed to this stupid project, and swaths of people have instantly turned their back on him without knowing any of the facts.
Ben Shapiro got Mexicans to abandon one of their heroes, got his own name to the top of google's searches, and made us look like angry fools lacking any nuance. He wins.

The first episode is alright, and then in part 2 we get our first look at the caves and it becomes instantly shit. After the initial laugh at the CSO it doesn't even have the decency to be entertainingly rubbish. A dull story poorly told. My least favourite Fourth Doctor story.

Underworld. If I was going to use CSO instead of buildings sets I would've used it to create exciting worlds that would otherwise be unachievable and not to depict some caves, a thing Doctor Who has been previously very good at.

Yesterday's funeral had an a.i. Order of Service which is clearly a thing now, but the Moment of Reflection was a 6 min a.i. generated song about the life of the deceased. It clearly meant a lot to the family, but I'm not sure my face was entirely convincing when they later asked for my opinion.

A screenshot via Reddit https://redd.it/1x4lmsu of someone searching Google "what is penis in braille" and receiving an AI overview: "The penis cannot read Braille because it lacks the necessary nerve receptors. Nerve Endings: Reading Braille requires Meissner's corpuscles, which are specialized nerve endings in the fingertips and other sensitive skin areas responsible for detecting light touch and fine textures."

For #DoctorWho folks, Elizabeth Sladen's daughter is posting on Instagram about some weird generative AI videos about Elisabeth Sladen and Jon Pertwee...

I don't want to give this person traction or publicity but lets normalise calling people who make Al videos of people's dead relatives what they are - a bit of a pervy weirdo

Highlighted comment

@sadie_14dy 4 min ago

This video uses Al images of my mother, making her say and do things she has not agreed to do because she is dead. Anyone watching, promoting and especially making this type of content is abhorrent. My mum would HATE this as would Jon. Stop feeding strangers into a computer because you're a pervert.
