Our collaborative paper with the Arndt lab is out today: doi.org/10.1093/nar/... (originally bioRxiv: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...). Here we asked the question of how CHD1 localizes to chromatin.

Integrator: A guardian against RNA-induced chaos
In the June 12th issue of Cell, Baluapuri et al. report that loss of the Integrator (INT) complex triggers cellular stress by unleashing aberrant transcription, resulting in production of immunogenic double-stranded RNA. Dissecting early and late consequences of INT depletion, the study exemplifies how transcriptional dysregulation can culminate in profound physiological outcomes.

Evidence of substrate control of Cdk phosphorylation during the budding yeast cell cycle
Control over protein phosphorylation timing is crucial for faithful cell cycle progression. Takacs et al. revisit existing qualitative and quantitative models for cyclin-dependent kinase (Cdk) control of the cell cycle. They provide evidence of a third mechanism in which the substrates themselves contribute to controlling their phosphorylation timing.

Integrator loss leads to dsRNA formation that triggers the integrated stress response
Integrator (INT) prevents the escape of immature RNAPII to ensure full-length mRNA production. INT deficiency causes defects in RNAPII maturation that lead to premature termination, accumulation of immunogenic dsRNA, and activation of the integrated stress response (ISR) observed in patient cells.
