Deep Mutational Scanning of structure-switching aptamers identifies both base requirement and base-pairing and uncovers regions required for either sensitivity or specificity
Structure-switching aptamers (SSAs) are short oligonucleotides that undergo a large conformational change on binding their specific target. This change can be used to read out target levels and SSA-ba...

It was fun to write this review with @rcdrula.bsky.social on Dicer functions beyond the canonical RNAi roles, including discussion of its roles in the nucleus. An evolving and sometimes complicated field, that was synthesized beautifully by Rareș, a terrific postdoc in the lab. Check it out!

Noncanonical Functions of DICER-Mediated Pathways
Dicer has long been viewed as the RNAse III enzyme that generates small regulatory RNAs to drive RNA interference (RNAi) machinery and posttranscriptional gene silencing. However, a growing body of ev...

Today 🇨🇦 announced the 64 scholars recruited from top US universities for the Canada Global Impact+ Chairs. They sounds like great scientists. But the enormous level of funding funnelled to this program is jaw-dropping when compared to the pitiful success rates at CIHR.
